I am a 20 year old male who was always in good health then one day this lymph node on the left side of my neck just popped up. I went to the doctor he tested for mono and strep throat both came back negative. He also did a blood test and a urine test both came back fine so he sent me home and said if anything gets worse come back. Later on i went to the dentist for a check up and they did an Xray and found out i have an Impacted wisdom tooth on the left side of my mouth with a cyst over it. The dentist said this is what could be causing the lymph node to swell up and she prescribed me Penicillin which did bring the lymph node down a little. Now that i am off the medication the lymph node in back. Lately I have been feeling like there is a lump in my throat on the right side when i swallow it does not hurt just feels like there is something there. I have also developed a stiff neck and it looks like the right side of my neck is swollen a little and there is some kind of clicking or grinding noise coming from the right side of my throat when i swallow. And last but not least i have been congested for a month i can not get ride of this stuffy nose. I am going to make an appointment with an ENT today and hopefully we can figure this out. Thanks for your help
Please don't assume it is cancer first. You've already know that penicillin will reduce the swelling. That tells me it is an infection, not cancer. Penicillin works on the infection.

OK, did you follow the instructions on the penicillin exactly? Finish it all? If not, that would have aggravated the situation.

The impacted wisdom tooth is the most likely cause of your problems. The penicillin helped reduce the inflammation but now it is back and more lymph nodes may be involved. The lymph nodes are inflamed because of that infection. You need to get the wisdom tooth taken care of first. Let your ENT know about the tooth, it is very relevant. You will most likely be put on an antibiotic, maybe something different, to clear that up.

Let us know how you're doing. Hope you're feeling better.

Yes i took all of the penicillin as directed by my doctor. I will be getting this tooth taken care of real soon I am on doxycycline currently and it has made the lymph node very small.

I had a similar problem like you mentioned above. Didn't give it much thought for a year. Then when I had a real coughing problem a called my brother, who was a doctor in Ohio. My Texas Dr. never found anything. My brother said " do you feel rich?" A MRI will cast about $1,000. you have less than 1% chance its something bad so insurance might not pay for the MRI. Well....... I had stage 4 throat cancer, just behind the tong so it was had to see the tumors. They removed my lymph nodes in the front of my neck and I had over 18 cancer inflamed lymph nodes larger than big marbles. I never felt them.

Well, thats my recommendation. Do you feel rich, get a MRI and get peace of mind.
