Hi, I would like to help my friend as much as I can but it seems that all I can give him is my support. His kid has been diagnosed with juvenile dermatomyositis and it is symptomized with a severe rash, I can see tat my friend is so nervous and stressed out because of this and I would like to know what kind of condition is juvenile dermatomyositis?
Well, the main thing is that it is not something that cannot be treated. Actually, the treatment should last for only couple of days; I think that steroids are used. After that, the treatment continues with decreasing the dosage of the medication. I assume that your friend is worried because of the second main symptom, which is muscle weakness and constant fatigue.
I don't know when this was posted originally. I can tell you that I was diagnosed with JDM when I was 8 years old. I am now 62. I have other autoimmune diseases, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Fibromyalgia. I was told the thyroid disease was a result of the JDM, but I'm not sure of that. While I was skinny, (like skin over bones). I was not treated any different from any other child. At 62 I have developed problems breathing while I sleep, so I have a BI-Pap and I have to drink a small bit after eating because my last bit of food don't like to go down. Other than that I have had 3 healthy children and been over all healthy.I am telling you all this so that you will know there is hope for a full productive life ahead.
