We just had a problem with our father, a medical emergency actually. His heart just stopped two days ago and we called for ambulance. I have to say they came in less than three minutes and were able to revive him with the electro chocks – defibrillation as I have heard it is called. Can you tell me what is the definition of defibrillation?
That procedure is applied only in a life threatening situations, just like your father had. Most likely, what happened was ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia (no pulse). When electrical energy affects a heart, depolarization of heart muscle happens and the normal heart sinus rhythm is back again. Unfortunately, sometimes even that does not work.
