Hi.

I had a cholystectomy around 6 months ago. Everyone is different for so many reasons, genetic make up, individual preferences for diet, and general eating habits. I am one of the worst kind. I eat fried chicken, burgers and everything that isnt reccomended.

Despite my eating habits, there has been little discomfort since the operation and most certainly NONE of the agony I used to have.

I did a little online research and it would seem to correlate that people who have a high fat diet after the op are more likely to experience diahorrea or loose bowel movements generally. For me, the instant I eat, I now need to 'go'.

Monitoring myself, Ive found that a diet high in fibre, including lots of fruits and vegetables, works well. Despite my atrocious diet, Im actually starting to lose weight. Quite why this is, i do not yet know. If i find out I will post the answer!

I reckon your husband will be fine. A touch of the trots is nothing compared to the pain of gall stones!

Ant.

So I had my gallbladder removed about 3 years ago and 6-8 months my sister-in-law had hers removed as well. We both had the same symptoms that are basically just a whole lot of digestion issues. For the first time ever we have both had hemorrhoids, nausea, more diarrhea than we care to remember, cramps, and intense hunger pains when we go too long without eating.

It does such that we will probably be dealing with digestion issues for the rest of our lives but life after isn't too terrible. Reality is most people with gallbladder problems didn't eat good food prior and don't eat good food after. I have noticed that when overall my diet is better the symptoms so lessen a great deal but do not go away. Oh yeah, i think the strangest thing is how often i poop. I poop like 4-6 times a day now, instead of one large movement a day it is just every time i go #1 i go #2 as well.

So the take home message is avoid surgury if you can, but if you must then eat better and remember that IMMODIUM is your friend!!!! :-)

I had gallbladder surgery on Friday 11/21/08.

My story begins several years ago (10-13). I had kidney stones 3 times in my early 30s (now almost 50). The pain was always lower back right side wrapping around to just above my bladder area. I started drinking cranberry juice and the pain went away. When I would get the pain back I would mentally review when I had last drank cranberry juice and would realize it had been about a week. I would drink 64 oz every 2 days for the next week and the pain would go away. I always let my doctor know when these pains occurred bt he would say "I doubt that it is kidney stones you just probably pulled a muscle". A physical therapist would say the same. As did my back surgeon and a chicropactor (sp?). The last 5 years the pain increased everytime I had an attack. I now was having the indigestion, nausea, vomiting & "runs" always about the sametime as the pain. The last two years the pain would go into my upper middle back area and be soooo intense. Again, all the doctors would just say a muscle strain. Sometimes, that pain would put me all the way down to the floor gasping. The heartburn/reflux and now IBS, along with the pain were just about consuming every aspect of my life...I had problems moving, laying down, driving, lifting and mental concentrate and emotions were shot (I am a problem solver and researcher and I had just lost my Mom and my bestest-ever dog. On top of that, I had a knowitall don'tneedyou and memememe teenager. My husband thought I was being a hypocondriac sp?). YET, everyone still would not either believe or try and find out what was going on. Depression, Anxiety and even more pain. Finally, one day at work my side and back were hurting. I had to work late that night by myself. The pain now was also in my stomach (never had been before) and it started creeping into my chest. When I had my daughter, I was in HARD Labor for 3 days....talk about maxing out my pain level. Well, I could of had 5 more kids verses that pain in my chest. [My good friend had had a major heart attack then triple bypass surgery and about 6 months ago he had gallstones and then pancreatisis (sp?) and a week later gallbladder surgery. He told me that the pancreatisis was worse then all the stuff with his heart.] I had deadlines and like a fool keep working til I was done...I figured if it was a heartattack the janitor would find my body. I finished my work and turned it in. The pain now was also in the underside of my right arm. I packed up and drove myself to the emergency room/hospital. They immediately put me ahead of everybody, ran several EKGs. Put a nitrogyclerine patch on me and shot me up with morphine. The doctor asks what my pain level was on a scale of 1 to 10. even after the morpjine it was about a 12...they gave me more morphine and got it down to an 8. They did chest X-rays then put dye in my blood and did a CT scan for blood clots. They couldn't find anything and sent me home telling me to consult my own Doctor. Well, my new OBGYN Doctor had tried in the last two years to become my General Physician too. She had been very concerned about my pain but I always felt I should stay with my other Doctor (had been with him 13 years and he had me on meds to deal with my Mom's death etc). Realizing (you all are saying -about time) that he wasn't going to do anything for me I went to my OBGYN Doc. She had me set for a Heart Stress test the next day...cleared with flying colors BTW. So she said, "I am sending you to have an ultrasound of your abdomen...but I think it is your gallbladder. within, 3 mins of the start of the ultrasound the techincian told me to tell my husband that I "For Real" had a medical problem and that now the Doctors could take care of me". My OBGYN Doctor scheduled me an appointment with a surgeon. He said, "Chronic Gallbladder disease" more then likely going on for years. The episode that sent me to the emergency room was an acute immflamation attack". Then I told him I had had 3 more episodes like that during the 2 1/2 weeks doing all the testing it took me to get to him. He scheduled my surgery ASAP..which was another 10 days away. He told me that it may burst like an appendix and to RUSH to the hopsital if I had another attack. Surgery came....he was doing a lap....3 incisions.....when I awoke I had 3 incisions and a 4th one just over two inches long at my belly button. Originally the camera was to go into my bellyB...but they had to change it during surgery. The Doctor was trying not to have to open me all up. My gallbladder was barely working...I had more then 30 stones...several were very Big and some were in my ducts. Also, the walls of my gallbladder were soooooo thick they had calcified. It was like I had a rock in my gut that had other rocks inside it. I hurt a bit from the same-day surgery....they gave me vicodin (sp?) and said bed rest the next 12-16 hours only lite liquids for 24-48 hours....try to sleep sitting up with a pillow under your knees. Prepared me for the pain in shoulders (only lasted a day) from the gas used to expand my stomach for surgery. Take the pain meds for only as long as needed but start weaning off of no later then 5th day. The following afternoon he wanted me to start walking around...no lifting or stretching. On 3rd day, I could start eating food, but to be careful of peanutbutter, fatty and fried foods and dairy products & eat in smaller portions. I noticed almost as soon as I woke no pain in side/back or chest like before surgery. I wasn't going to miss Thanksgiving dinner...had waited all year for the turkey/dressing etc. I found whipped cream, sodas, overindulging in milk and cheese and anything fried would just decrease time between eating before bathroom run and mild heartburn if spicy. Everyone already says I look much better. I feel better. I had the week of Thanksgiving off..so tomorrow when I return to work will be ten days since surgery. Friday, I go back to the surgeon for checkup and find out lab results...everything seems to be healing fine. I was off pain pills in 3 days. After 12 years of this pain and having 4 major attacks from the stones (like dying 4 times over) I am veryveryvery happy to have the surgery. Of course I will have to adjust my eating habits...but I have a few (more like many) pounds to spare so losing some weight will be good for me...win win. Needless to say, I am getting all my medical files from the other doctor and my OBGYN Doctor will now take care of everything. I will update all about labwork and at 6 months......but hopefully for your sakes and mine with less air/ysking and typing...hahaha

Hi I am a 35 Year old female, I just had my gal bladder removed 5 weeks ago, the bloating and nausea and vomiting started almost as soon as I started eating again post op. So I had a scope done on my stomach which didnt show anything, so now I have done a lot of research. I found that there are certain enzymes that the gal bladder secret to help in the digestion process. Some Dr. disagree that this is so, but why do some of us have issues and some do not? I have also tried Peppermint oil, ginger root they help with the pain and settle the digestion tract down from the spasms. Those do work temporarily.

I had gall bladder surgery. All doctors will tell you its a simple procedure almost guaranteed to take away all pain n issues. The truth of the matter is its horrible. Ive talked to so many people out there that go through what i did and am. Its all over the internet. Fatty foods, dairy, fast food, pop it all makes you sick. You have to end up having a whole new diet. If you dont then you will pack on alot of weight and u cant get rid of it. Also Drinking alcohol makes me sick now. You feel pain around the gall bladder area all the time. I still get attacks like i did when i had the gall bladder, horrible stomach pains and chest pains that makes me feel like im having a heart attack. Everything also shoots right through your stomach. If your lucky you will come out with everything fine and dandy but most people have issues.

What is life like after gallbladder removal?

There is a good possibility that the Celiace Disease, being undiagnosed at the time, played a role in your gall bladder issues. Not the other way around. That is how it went for me. I feel you on it... But now that both have been taken care of, I feel SO much better!

If you have acid reflux, EAT A RED DELICIOUS APPLE! The media has everyone brain washed in telling all on how to deal with excess stomach acid, when the real problem is NOT ENOUGH stomach acid to aid in digesting your food! If you do not have a RDA handy, apple cider vinegar works just as well! If I have a late night snack, like leftover pizza, I try to make a point to eat an apple before I go to bad. If I don't, I surely pay the price in the middle of the night! What do you got to loose? It's a lot better than being dependent on medicine ALL THE TIME!

Hello. Try to start taking some probiotics. Thrush is a form of yeast -- candida yeast. I had my gallbladder removed a week ago and I feel great, but I take probiotics to ensure a healthy gut flora. Start limiting your sugar intake as well. When our gut flora is unhealthy we have an over growth of candida yeast throughout our bodies. This over growth causes many problems, tiredness, body aches, weight gain, and so forth.

Probiotics has been the best thing for me. Healthy gut flora is key to good health.

Hello, I had my gallbladder removed 4 months ago, since then i have been feeling depressed, lethargic, having thyroid issues and have no energy. Can you please tell me more about your story?

We are ignorant fools for allowing anyone to take out our gallbladder unless it is an absolute emergency! I was one of them who was too desperate to start feeling 'normal' again and that is what was promised. That i would recover and feel much better with no changes in energy or absorption. Now i am getting to the point where I contemplate suicide and hate myself every day for allowing the surgeon to take advantage of me. I have gained 5 kg, feel sick and tired everyday, and have become depressed because I am literally wasting away and becoming nutrient deficient! Before the surgery, I was happy, full of energy and light now I f*****g hate everything and cry often. Please do not do this unless you have serious health complications! It will most likely consume your soul and take everything from you!

23 year old female, who had so much energy and life, now has possible hypothyroidism, dark circles around her eyes and hair falling out of her head. No hope, no future and ruined for life.

I just went to the Doctor for the same thing, Gallbladder out and 2 weeks later the bathroom was my best friend. It has been over a year and we are going to try a chlosterol pill but it is widley used as a bile blocker I pray this is the answer. Since the bile has no where to go it irritates the colon this might help the condition to ease up.
