I have had ecxema for several years now. I'm 41 years old and an executive in the business world. I only get it in the winter and it depends on how bad the air is as to how bad I get it. It's been so bad at one time they thought it was Shingles. I have it everywhere, the back of my neck, lower legs, high upper thighs, hips, all around armpits, elbows, inside of wrist's, lower back and buttocks. It's starting on my stomach now.
It's never been as bad as it is this year. It cracks and bleeds and starts all over again the next day. Although usually not all areas on the same day or at the same time. I have had the steroid shot, taken the 6 days of prednisone, (which let me tell you my husband found thrilling, not) and used a full tube of RX seroid salve. NOT WORKING. It's coming back with a brutal force and I refuse to live in missery for the rest of the winter. If I could move to Florida today, I would, but I can't. I will be tanning to see if it works. When I'm in the sun, my skin is very pretty, as a fair compection person, I can tan very well if I take it slow. I hate that I have to do this, but NOTHING is working at all. I pray this works because I can't live with the pain and itching any longer.
They say missery loves company and that's not what I mean by this at all, but I am glad to see there are other people who have it as bad or worse than I do. I was starting to think I was a freak of nature.

I just started tanning to alleviate my eczema and other skin problems .I was informed by the tanning salon that my tanning visits could be paid for if I got a presciption from my doctor AND they are TAX DEDUCTIBLE .If it is so unsafe then why are some Doctors approving of it ? I USE THE LOTION they recommmend at the salon and my skin is getting clearer already and looks so much healthier .I grew up in FL ,I am a naitve ,that transplanted to IN .I never had skin problems till the last few years ,and I definelty miss the sun and the VIt D .i also suffer from Fibromalaygia and Spondylethesis ,hypothyroidism .ALL of these conditions seem better when I tan .Getting burned in the sun is what is bad for your skin ,not tanning it .I never used sunscreen in FL and worked in the sun all day ,everyday for many years .If your skin is conditioned to it ,my opinion is ,then moderation ,its natural , and healthy .Steriods have tons of really bad side effects .As do many of the drugs prescribed by Doctors .Thankfully ,my doctor believes in homeopathic remedies and this is a NO BRAINER .Like someone posted above ,the oharm comp. are pushing this stuff to Doc's etc etc

Had neurodermatitis all over the body for years, which is a type of eczema. Went overseas to black sea for a month, salt water and sun, salt water and sun for whole month, came back as clean as the baby's butt.
So the answer yes its good, but natural sun much better. Just don't overdo both.

THE TANNING WORKED
I've been tanning for the month of January and I am Excema Free!!!! NONE no where on my body. I go about 2 times a week for 5-6 minutes per session it cleared up completely after about 5 sessions - but I noticed it started to stop after 2 times in the bed. YAY!!!! It works it works it works.

I have exzema and that is the only thing that helps mine go away.... I know your pain it is a terrible itchy feeling plus it is extremely embarrassing to wear tank tops, dresses etc... as I said that is what I do to help mine. When you get done with your bed visit just put some unscented lotion on :)

Actually Lynette is wrong.. When tanning my skin condition is always 100% better... don't over do it an you will be fine... People have been conditioned to this tanning beds are bad because of the abuse some people use to turn themselves into oompa loompas.. Don't believe the hype, there are benefits and this person commenting above OBVIOSULY knows zip about eczema... Good luck

I wondered about tanning beds. I was told to stay extremely hydrated. So, I thought that wouldn't be a great idea, but at this point I'll try anything. I've never had this issue before about a year ago. I had a major bout early December from using a conditioner under my arms to shave. At first it was just around my arms and armpits but quickly spread all over.
This time I bought a turtleneck to wear snowmobiling. I didn't wash it first. Two days later BAM! Eczema is covering my whole body head to toe. It's MISERABLE. The itch is constant, and the portion on my arms feel like needle pricks.
Anyone else experiencing this type of symptom or severity?

So, do you tan year round now? I'm fair skinned with a history of skin cancer in my family, but I have severe what I think is eczema too and I just can't take it anymore. The itching is out of control and on my arms it feels like needle pokes. Certain areas actually bleed when I scratch. UG! To me the tanner seems like the lesser of the two evils.

Your last post was two months ago. Did the tanning help? I'm 42 and mine is head to toe and miserable as well. The shot, prednisone, and hydrocortisone creams didn't do the trick for me either.

You have some cheek saying your desperate and you have only had it a month. Come back when it's been years and every single simple task in life hurts Your in that much pain, you haven't had a proper nights sleep in years because your up all night itching. The n you have the cheek to call it ugly you should be ashamed of yourself. I wouldn't wish this on anyone but I would like to see you have real problems maybe you would be as harsh with your words

Hi. I am currently having a horrible eczema outbreak on my torso mostly, but patches on my arms and crease of my legs. When you go in the tanning bed, what do you put on your body?? and does it leave scars?
