So yesterday i had my tonsillectomy. When i was 6 I had my adenoids removed, but they said there would be no need for my tonsils at the time because they weren't infected and no need to put a child threw that kind of pain. When i was 16 i had my wisdom teeth cut out, and that wasn't too bad, just took a while to get my strength back. I have to admit i was really nervous going into surgery. However, that was the best part of the day. The IV literally did not hurt at all, and shortly after I started feeling really good. Then I woke up and it was all done. This is where sh*t hit the fan. My pain level was a 10 out of 10, i was told i would wake up probably feeling numb. I woke up hurting like my throat was still being cut in to. They gave me morphine, but I had a reaction to it and started itching all over. They gave me something to help that, and then took me to my room. I slept for a couple hours before waking up to drink water and take pain medication. Trying to swallow hurt so bad, i instantly broke into tears. My throat felt completely torn apart, which i guess it was.
Going home wasn't too bad, i just slept. The pain medication hasn't been very strong. Every time i swallow my own saliva I have to hold on to something because my body shakes. I finally realized later today that I could eat a lot of stuff, the only problem is that when i swallow my throat flexes and causes that ridiculous body twitch. I'm just hoping that tomorrow I can start swallowing water without dying of pain. I still think this was a good decision though.
I wouldn't be scared of the surgery, but there is reason to be nervous about having such a hard time swallowing. If you're having tonsil problems anyway, i dont think you could regret the surgery at all.
