Women use make-up to enhance their features, but sadly many do not realize the importance of knowing how to remove make-up properly.

How to Remove Make-up Properly

The goal of proper make-up removal is not to rub the face raw or cause irritation, but to gently remove any traces of cosmetics from the pores in order to maintain healthy skin.  By observing the tips in the following article, you can gently cleanse your face and wake-up with dewy, soft, skin and a beautiful complexion.

It is very important to remove make-up prior to going to bed at night.  Not only does it remove cosmetic residue, but also the affects of environmental pollution and toxins from the day.  Removing make-up allows the skin to breathe and regenerate, so nightly face washing is a must for a healthy complexion.  The following steps will show you how to remove make-up properly, which is something every woman needs to know.

Make-up Removal Steps You Need to Know

  • Pull hair back gently into a ponytail in order to expose the entire face and hairline, which can also have make-up or dead skin build-up that needs to be removed.
  • Using a cotton ball moistened with baby oil or make-up remover, gently wipe the areas around the eyes.  Use a separate cotton ball for each eye in order to avoid possibly spreading infection and be careful not to get any product into your eyes.
  • To perform proper facial cleansing, find a cleanser that is gentle and effective at removing dirt and oils and has been formulated for your particular skin type.
  • Place a minimal amount of cleanser into the palms of your hand and lather it onto your moistened face, paying special attention to the hairline and areas where make-up was used.  Take enough time and make sure that the cleanser is applied to the entire face and rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry using a clean towel and follow with a light, nightly moisturizer.
  • Some women might want to use a toner, but most beauty experts agree that toners are not always needed.  Most cleansers have a toner built in and any additional toner can strip the skin of natural oils which can lead to dryness and irritation.
  • Do not use baby wipes because it does not effectively remove make-up and can cause clogged pores and blemishes.
  • If waterproof mascara is used, use a specially formulated cleanser on a cotton ball to remove.  Cleanser can also be used on long-lasting lip color as well.
  • It is not necessary to rewash the face in the morning because it does not get dirty while sleeping.  Cleansing the skin too much can lead to irritation, eczema, and dryness.  If you awake with a slight sheen of oil on your skin, you can rinse it well with some lukewarm water and pat it dry gently with a clean cloth before reapplying make-up.

Overview

Knowing how to remove make-up properly is a very important part of optimal skin care and protects the health and appearance of your complexion. Never stretch or pull on the skin or vigorously scrub the face, doing so can lead premature wrinkling and be harmful.  It is integral to formulate a skin care cleansing regimen into your nightly routine in order to preserve the appearance of a healthy glow.
