This article explores the top 3 useful apps for not only Pathologists but also medical students and residents learning the material. The article consists of a useful resource for dissections as well as reviews to help learn and retain the material.

Number 2:  Pathology Exam Review by Everyone

This app is more geared towards the medical students and Pathological residents who are attempting to grasp the material for the first time.  Two versions of this application are available and include a free trial version of 400 flashcards and a professional layout totaling 2,100.  Although most of the cards seem simplistic in nature, this is a very good level to review for NBMEs and USMLE examinations and would help any resident rotating through Pathology to have a solid base in the field.

Rated as a decent 3.9/5, this application may not replace the Robbins Pathology textbook lying around the break room but it is a concise way to get through the main points of Pathology quickly.

Number 3: Pathology Quiz Challenge

This application is another valuable resource for any medical student or resident to study some of the main concepts of Pathology.  There are several aspects of this application that make it attractive for users.  To start with, users are able to compete with other users similar to “Quizmania” and try to beat each other head-to-head answering trivia questions about Pathology topics.  This is a very effective way to learn the material because adding an element of competition pushes a user to study  harder to avoid humiliation not only to their virtual friends, but on Boards and rounding.

Another attractive feature is the large database of questions that a user will be able to work through.  With over 800 questions, a thorough review of all of the common pathologies can be achieved in a few days.   These questions are based on USMLE-style questions and mirror material presented in First Aid, Goljan's Pathology, Pathoma, and UWorld and will serve as a good comprehension check as you work through the new material or try to review some of the old.

During my medical schooling, Pathology was one of the harder subjects based on the scope and variability of numerous conditions.  The only way to survive during this course was to just keep studying and doing practice questions and hope that you absorbed enough to do well enough on the exams to be done with it.  Considering the biased skew towards Pathology on Step 1, I strongly recommend all medical students to download this application as another resource to use for your studies.  It was very time consuming reading through Pathoma and Goljan’s in conjunction with First Aid so having an application that aggregates all these key points together is invaluable when study time is limited for most students and residents out there.
