Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial. In some cases ovaries are removed with uterus and than it is "total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. You didn't say what the reason for such operation is so I can't tell if only uterus will be removed or ovaries also. Anyway if they do not remove ovaries your wife will feel better because her hormonal status won’t be upset too much.
