I had the same thing after I fractured 3 vertabraes in my back. I had surgery and afterwards as strange as it was had this almost stabbing ripping pain in my ribs. It was almost like something was catching when I moved the wrong ways. After a few weeks, endless test, and a pain so severe most people will probably experience that level on their lives; I ended up having to get some kind of shot or series of shots it was like 3 numbing shots and then the actual injection. I wish I could explain what it was but honestly I don't think anyone actually knew, the doctors were just blindly guessing treatments and happened to get it right because the pain went always and I became able to eat again.
