Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but lanolin (like from sheep' wool or also found as nipple cream in stores) works the best for accurate lips. Way better than Vaseline, imo.

i’ve been using it for months now and it’s definitely the best thing I’ve tried but it still doesn’t fix anything. When they aren’t dry and peeling my lips are so smooth and totally red it’s as if a whole layer of my lips have been burned off. It looks horrible and it’s depressing to think that I will never have normal lips ever again.

Of course this has happened to me too. I don't even want to look in the mirror anymore. I saw myself in a high quality photo today and it looks like I'm a leper or something. It's been a year and a half. Nothing will fix this. I almost killed myself over it and maybe still will.

Hello everyone. I've been off Accutane for about 4 years and my lips, mouth, and skin are extremely dry. I've done a ton of research on what Accutane does to your body and what may cause these problems. I've come to the conclusion that the culprit is either a lack of B vitamins (which Accutane is known to decrease your vitamin B levels) or an excess of vitamin A. I'm leaning toward an excess of Vitamin A, as this vitamin can be stored in your body for years on end, including even in your fat cells. I'm planning on starting a Vitamin A detox, and I'm hoping this will help.

I used to be very trusting of doctors and took medications for any issues I thought I had in my 20's-30's. I took two courses of Accutane. I'm 41 years old now. I took a full 6 month course in my 20's for stubborn cystic acne on my chest and back then a short low dose course when I was 30 to clear blackheads. After Accutane I developed mild seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and face, I also have perpetually dry lips that burn with cracks at the corners of my mouth. I can also drink a gallon of water a day and I'm still thirsty. I had blood tests and I don't have any issues such as diabetes. I'm in good shape and otherwise healthy. At first I loved having clear skin, I really hated having acne at the time and obsessed over it. The dermatologists told me how safe Accutane was and how you just need to use some lip balm while you're on it. (They frame the lip balm thing as a small annoyance when in reality it's an extremely major thing to destroy your lips) Now that I'm older I highly regret taking Accutane. Accutane suppresses your oil glands and this causes problems with your skin and also sexually. The oil gland suppression may or may not technically be permanent but since oil production decreases naturally it ultimately can be permanent after accutane. The truth is you want your oil glands to produce as much sebum as possible. I found out later my skin is just very sensitive and prone to breakouts, it seems I may have allergies to a lot of products with nuts like coconut or shea butter so this can causes breakouts especially when you have a lot of sebum. It's extremely inappropriate and unhealthy to suppress your oil glands. Your skin will dry out as you age anyway so you should appreciate the sebum you produce when you're young. Stop using products that aggravate your skin just use water and take cold showers or ice baths to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. All acne is is inflammation. You have a boost of hormones when you go through puberty and acne is natural and healthy. I miss the natural sebum I had in my skin. It used to have so much elasticity. To be honest I think I look pretty good at 41 but I need to perpetually apply lip balm and the corners of my mouth remain cracked. I realized that the way I was raised and our culture made me so worried about how I appeared to others when I should have been appreciating how I felt. We suppress our sexual nature and feel disgusted by pimples when we should be embracing these things. Everyone is just looking to sell us things. We're bombarded since birth with recommendations for cleansers, ointments, medicines, lip balms then more medicines to fix the side effects of the other medicines. Most of these things if not all of them make our skin worse and when you combine this with the cheap foods we eat in school with antibiotics and hormones in it and then central air we are bound to have excess sebum production and acne when growing up.

Hi, guest.
If there is significant damage to the lips, a skin graft may be considered as part of the treatment plan. A skin graft involves removing healthy skin from one area of the body and transplanting it to the damaged area, in this case, the lips. This procedure is typically reserved for cases where there has been significant damage to the lips, such as from severe burns or trauma.
It is important to note that skin grafts are not always successful and can come with potential risks and complications, such as infection, bleeding, and scarring. Therefore, the decision to use skin grafts as a treatment for peeling lips would depend on the underlying cause and severity of the condition and should be made in consultation with a medical professional.
What else have you tried for your lips?
