hello all,

Just read all your post op symptoms and I am relieved to find that I don't need to give myself the horrors in the middle of the night thinking I have something worse!

I had my GB removed in Dec 07 by whom I can only describe as one of the best surgeons ever. My scars are tiny, my recovery rate was amazing.

I decided to cut out fry ups, butter, cheese, booze, eggs and then coffee. Substituted with porridge, soya spread and milk, oatcakes, fruit and veg and loads of water. Started back jogging, lost weight, felt wonderful........then out of the blue two weeks ago I seemed to need to go to the loo more and had "mucus runs" (best way I can describe it -sorry folks!) and looser movements. It lasted about 3 days and went away and has decided to come back today again.

Total panic ! Was about to go to docs thinking I was dying then looked up this web page. I had looked at the info I received before the op and it did say some people can suffer from this but I thought I had escaped it as its 3 months since the op. So do you all reckon this is pretty normal? I did ask myself where does the bile go once you get the GB out -do you suppose it is the cause of the runs?

Otherwise I feel fantastic and have lost weight rather than gained as my surgeon warned might happen. Does anyone suffer on and off like me? Did anyone have a wait of 3 months then kaboom ? I don't want to take any medication and would prefer to control myself if anyone has any ideas out there? I don't want to bother the doc so if anyone can reassure me out there ????

Thanks Janet

I had my gallbladder removed 10 yrs ago ( I was 18) right after my first baby. My doctor did inform me that my body would have trouble breaking down fatty, oilly or spicey foods. He did not inform me however of the disgusting side effects or reactions that my body would have If I did eat these kinds of foods. At first, being young and not wanting to change my diet I still tried to eat fast food and such and I would have these "attacks". I would get extremly hot, start sweating, stomach cramping, even dizziness when I had to go to the bathroom. What came out was a bunch of loose stool and bile and the smell was awful. After years of these attacks I have learned to cut all fastfood-especially Macdonalds-most hamburger, and anything extremely fatty out of my diet. I love hot and spicey food so I do eat it sometimes but I know whats coming. Over time I have learned to control my reactions so I can go out to eat but if I eat the wrong foods I don't always have an immediate reaction to them like I used to. Maybe over time your body gets use to it.

Hi all,
Several years ago, my wife was experiencing severe abdominal pain which was determined to be her gall bladder, which was duly removed. Interestingly, the pain persists! Unfortunately, her weight almost tripled, and won't come off, despite all efforts, and examinations. Like the others in this thread, she has constant diarrhea, which has only eased through high doses of codeine - not good. Her weight has aggravated an old spinal injury, which adds to her pain levels! I am wondering if there is some kind of substitute for the bile which the gall bladder produces.
Anyway, if anyone could assist......
Greatly apppreciated.

I have the same problem with the weight and some diareha. I do not have any energy to work out and pain in side and back since. The only thing I can say would be not to eat sweets and gluten free products, but I have tried watching my diet, but it doesnt work that well for me either. I still feel the same even with eating better. I have also tried massage and that seems to work if I could do massage and afford massage twice a week and think it would be help and rest for a few weeks, but soon as I work out it comes back.

I had my gallbladder removed April 2005, I too have had constant diarehea, also problems with weight gain. I started working out in January and started watching what I ate and to this day I have not lost any weight. I am very discouraged and have stopped going to the gym. Now I am having problems with constipation. So I don't know what is going on with my body. All I know that this is all occured since I had the surgery.

Thank goodness I found this site, I had my Gall Bladder removed 2 years ago. In this time I have put on 2 stones mostly round my middle and stomach. I have always been slim as I exercise every day, but now I feel dumpy. 6 months after the operation I had terrible pain on the right, I started being sick, this lasted from December until August, I was frightened and wondered what was happening to me. Eventually I read an article on taking charcoal to help with digestive problems, it soaks up the acid and gets rid of the wind. It worked the pain went, thank goodness but I still get the bloats and have the runs, some days worse than others, and like the lady said how do you put on weight when the food is running through you? I was always very fit, I have a big dog which needs walking twice a day and I do Pilates every 2nd day. Now I feel dejected as excercise doesn't seem to help. I watch what I eat even doing a diary to find out if its any food that makes a difference. No that didn't help. It helps to know I am not the only one, but it has changed my life, I dare not go out of the door until I am empty, I feel sick if I do not eat often, I cannot eat a good meal, just small amounts. As was said why are you not warned that this will happen to you and what to take for it or how to help with the discomfort. Has anyone out there found help?Code:

I had my gall bladder removed 6 weeks ago. Since then I have put on a stone in weight and my hair is thick with grease, even after washing, my skin has mass outbreak of spots and my nails have broken and won't regrow. The hospital dietician and my GP believe that my body has reacted badly to the operation and are testiing my vitamin and thyroid levels.

I feel a bit cheated though, I was told before the operation you didnt need your gall bladder and that nothing would be any different. Oh yeah, and pigs fly.

Hi there!! I'am 24 years old and had my GB removed when I was 20 years old. I was having horrible attacks from the Gall stones. Anyways...I too have the horrible loose stools. Anything I eat goes right through me. I went to my Dr. a couple of months ago and she wanted a sample of my stool which I did not bring back to her bc of being embarrassed. She also gave me imodium which does not help and fiber powder.

I had my gallbladder out laparoscopically 2 weeks ago and have been getting better daily. Does anyone know when heavier activity can begin? I was feeling no pain and I think I may have been doing too much getting ready for the holidays. I woke up with excruciating upper right back pain (similar to when I was having attacks prior to surgery). My Dr did not address when exercise, sexual activity, etc can occur. Anybody know the answer to this?

I had my GB removed in July of this year also and I have had a lot of problems with back spasms and pain! I am on pain pills and muscle relaxers most of the time and hate being like this! I never had any back problems until the surgery so I figure it has to be from the surgery. Does any one have any answers or experiencing the same thing?

I too lost weight since getting my GB removed...it will be 2 years this march. I have the pains on my right side that some have described and loose stool...sometimes Reah depending on how much fat the food I am eating contains. However, unlike a lot of people on this blog I have experienced weight loss not gain. I went from 230 to 160 since having it out and have literally not seen the inside of a gym the entire time. I don't really watch what I eat either....I don't purge but have at least one peice of candy everyday and some kind of dessert pretty much every night....I and all my friends and family contribute it to my GB being gone....???? I guess it affects everyone differently
