I am wondering if anyone else has had an immediate reaction to a DtaP shot? My physician has starting using them for adults due to this new strain of whooping cough that people are giving to their young children. ANyway, I recieved the shot in my left arm, which felt almost no pain. Within 30 minutes my entire body was in pain, all my joints ached, I couldn't sit still or get comfortable. I ran a low grade fever for 2 days, but that wasn't near as painful as the cramps in all my muscles. Abdominal, arms, legs, neck, chest, and all my joints hurt, even my fingers and toes.

I've been to the Rheumatologist and she put me on a low dose prednisone twice a day. That was about 2 months ago that I started that regimen and I'm feeling 100% better. I'll be on the steroids for another couple of months but weaning off of them slowly and then we'll see if any of the symptoms come back. So far I'm feeling really good although the steroids make me hungry all the time. The doctor told me to never have another tetanus shot.

Im kind of happy hearing that everyone els was in pain because i was worrying something was wrong, Its been 2 days and the pain is constant but bearable. Its bad when i lift my arm to put my coat on or somthing. The area where the injection went in, its hard and raised slightly, If if i put muscle rub on it, a heat rub, it realy helps. give it ago.

Is has been 5 months since my tetanus shot and my agony still continues.
I was perfectly healthy before and now I live with severe muscle and nerve pain.
Sure wish I new about the possible adverse reactions that could occur from a vaccine.
My GP told me nothing about such possibilities, something people have a right to know.... in order to make a informed decision.
After the damage is caused, no one seem to know how to rectify the situation, and the individual is left to suffer.
Hope everyone gets healthy...and when I do, I am steering clean of the medical "profession."
This is a nightmare for people, and their families, who suffer through this experience.
My prayers are with all of you!

It's been over a year since I got that tetanus shot and my rheumatologist seems to think the damage is permanent. all of my joints still ache and are swollen. I'm on a a LOT of medications, including sulfazine, plaquinel, and Enbrel injections. I've applied for SSD because I can no longer work. I was an active person and now I can't even walk a block. I was never informed of any potential risks of getting a tetanus shot.

My arm has been aching for nearly over a month where my tetanus vaccine was injected. It is very stiff, as if I had worked out only one portion of my right arm. I don't have money to get pain medication, though I can deal with the discomfort. I just don't need my arm falling off or this 'helping aid' to destroy my body. Who the heck is allergic to tetanus shots?!

I got my shot on Wed, the 27th, it is raised today, red, warm to the touch.  The pain is there, but, it's bearable.  I jumped on here to see if this is normal, 2 days later, and see that it is.  My daughter got hers on the 26th, and hers looks perfectly normal, which is why I was concerned about mine.  I'll wait through the weekend and see what happens.  Angie79, I see yours is the most recent. Hope yours is better!

Ok, super lengthy response was just deleted when I went to publish.

Bottom line, I'm 3 weeks out and finally went to the Dr who said that she thinks I have an infection. (Extreme pain around injection site to where I could not lift my arm and swelling the size of a softball.) She prescribed an antibiotic and told me to get back to her in 4-5 days if things were not improving. 3 days into antibiotic and doesn't seem to be swelling as bad, but the pain is still as bad. (I've been taking 800mg Ibuprofen every 6 hours for 3 weeks for the pain.) I'm giving it through the weekend and then will reevaluate.

Bottom line. I didn't need the shot and I will never get another one again and encourage all that I know not to. I was never informed of the potential side effects. Unless you need a tetanus shot due to injury, dont' do it. :(

I found this site while searching for  some information on the reaction my 16 year old grandson is having to his tetanus booster.  I am a retired RN and spent some time in Family Practice.  I am 65 so I was a nurse for a long time.  All my years in nursing have really pushed me to the alternative arena and I'm tired of all these immunizations.  And please, don't give me the story about it would be much worse if you got tetanus, that is not as easy to get and not as common as the Drs/drug companies want you to think it is, do some research.
When I argued with the Dr once about a little neighbor who became severely brain damaged after the DPT his answer was that only happens to about 1 in ? (I don't remember)  But if your child is that one it makes a big difference.  I grew up in a generation that got measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox, the ratio of those who suffered severe reactions is probably less than with the immunizations. Big Pharma money!
Gonna stop now because it is a very sore subject with me.  I am still concerned about my grandson's reaction and I'm going to call him during the night and if he doesn't answer I will wake his mom to check on him.  In my research I have found some very frightening reactions to the shot.
