My husband had gallbladder removed, it was filled with pus and hundreds of gallstones. Six weeks after surgery, developed symptoms of a blockage, had ERCP, did not find blockage, became jaundiced, severe itching, doctors stumped. Liver biopsy and blood test do not match. Blood test indicates everything fine, biopsy indicates alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. Is there any correlation??? No lung problems, never smoked. What do we do or who do we see next?? Any ideas, suggestions, or familiarity with this sequence??? His jaundice has subsided, still itching... Any information would be apreciated. When the certified hepalogist is stumped we feel uncomfortable. Also, he has had high liver enzymes detected for the last 17 years now.

Thank you

Is Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency treatable? Will my condition worsen? Will I die from this?
