Just wanted to mention - try to read the book "Primal body, primal mind - beyond the Paleo diet" by Nora Gedguadas, she addresses adrenal exhaustion in much detail and also dietary changes that will enable you to heal.
thank you so much for sharing! I have been to so many dr.'s last 2 yrs & have had numerous ct scans, endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood, heart tests ,GI,blood work & ended up overnight also in hospital hooked up to heart machines & no one can give me an answer. My symptoms were exactly the same but was also having some other issues including very dry skin & eyes..my right eye ,the last few months, atleast 7 x's had gotten so dry my vision was completely blurred & would last for 8hrs. they did every eye test/drops you can & nothing.Recently my daughter had a gallstone attack & thru my research I stumbled upon an article on adreans-finally a sign! Then a healer friend did a session w/me(I am also a healer) an channeled a message about a tonic for adrenals-huh more confirmation...I took this info to my accupuncturist & have been on bovine supplement a few weeks & what a difference! I am going to try the licorice & l-tyrosine now too. Thank you for the time to share & I wish everyone here a quick healing! Thanks to all who participate & share your stories-it helps us all, even though we may never meet,we can make a change in someones life! Blessings
check to see how your thyroid is and if you are prediabetic
Hey dont know if you will see this becuase its been a while but I am 26 yo and have been dealing with adrenal issues for a while now but a year ago they really just hit me. I had to drop out of school as a pre med student, lost my medical internship. lost my girlfriend, lost my job and pretty much everything else you could imagine. Its tough. I lost most of my friends and havent been able to just be a 20 something year old for a while now. It sucks but hang in there. Seeing a naturopath is expensive and so are the supplements but do a little research. A lot of the posts on this website about which supplements to take are pretty accurate. You will get better with time and a reduction of stress. I became so stressed out again recently after I lost my girlfriend and cat in the same week I would almost pass out from the stress. About three weeks later still on the up to getting back to where I was before. But just find what makes you happy and do it. For me its photography. I find peace and serenity in photographing beautiful places here in Oregon. Dont stress about it because its just a vicious cycle and will worsen your condition.
I am a 26 year old male and have been really dealing with adrenal issues since high school now that I notice the signs. I have always had bad anxiety due to my rough childhood and dealt with really bad OCD and stress most of my life. In my 20's I started to slowly decline in my energy for a while. I had one really bad crash when I was about 20. I was on the couch sleeping for 15-16 hours a day and was beyond exhausted. I literally couldnt even stand on my own two feet. Well some how after about a month it subsided on its own. I didnt know what it was at the time, but it went away and I didnt think anything more of it. As time went by and the years past I put myself through the ringer with stress and over exercising. I became OBSESSED with exercise to a point where it wasnt healthy. I was in such good shape I felt like superman but I was always striving for more when more wasnt necessary. I was a premed student pushing very hard to be the top of my class, which I ended up doing. At the age of 24, in 2011, I ended up with type 1 diabetes. Up to this point I was always exhausted, weak, and just didnt feel right but kept pushing myself to be the best. After starting insulin therapy my energy went way back up and I felt great. I would go to the gym and do a hard leg workout and then go hiking for 8 miles through the snow after and get up and keep going the next day. I was unstoppable until fate would have it one day at the end of my semester in school, the spring of 2012, my body finally had enough. I couldnt breath, felt like I was going to pass out as if I had low blood sugar (thought it was my diabetes but my blood sugar was normal), became really confused feeling, my body felt kind of numb, was completely exhausted, like someone just sucked every ounce of energy out of me and it scared me bad. I went to the ER and, since I lived in San Diego and it was summer and hot, they said I was just moderately dehydrated. They have me an iv and sent me home. Well the next night the same thing happened but this time my heart palpitations were really bad. My heart rate was all over the place. Well they sent me home with instructions to see a heart specialist. I ignored their instructions because, well I am no professional but I know a lot about the human body, and that definitely wasnt the issue. With my addiction to exercise I kept working out my normal way too hard and I would crash really hard after my workouts. As in I felt like I was going to die. I eventually became so fatigued that I couldnt even walk up the stairs. Now imagine that. Going from an insane fitness level to not being able to make it up the stairs. What a reality check that was. I knew something was seriously wrong. I had really bad brain fog, extreme fatigue, dizziness, NO sex drive, and because of my diabetes and the whole out of whack cortisol, terrible blood sugar control. I have always been a healthy eater and since my diabetes even more so. So this was unusual. Well I eventually had to drop out of school, drop out of my internship at the hospital, and try to figure out what was wrong with me. I moved back to Oregon to be with my family for support through this hell I was, and still am living. I lost everything. My girlfriend, had to put school on hold, my internship, friends, recently my cat, and my job. Life has definitely let me know who is boss and put me in check to make me relax and keep my stress low. Well it took five doctors to figure out what was wrong with me. None of the MDs could figure it out. They were a complete waste of money, and as fate would have it my mom is in school to become a naturopathic doctor and suggested that I go to the NCNM clinic here in Portland to see a naturopathic doctor. So I did and it just so happens that I found a great doctor who never gave up, ran whatever test she could think of until as a last effort we ran a neurotransmitter test and a cortisol test showing that basically all my neurotransmitters were low (dopamine, seritonin, GABA, phenylalanine, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and maybe a few others that I am forgetting), and found that my glutimate was high (which is inhibitory at high levels for the other neurotransmitters previously listed). We also found that my cortisol levels were low. Normal in the morning and around 11 am would drop off like a cliff and flat line the rest of the day. Well I was so happy! It was bittersweet but we finally found out what was wrong with me after months of tests! I am now taking supplements through a company called Neuroscience and let me tell you. I have noticed a huge difference. I dont get sick anymore. My brain fog is getting better, I dont have body aches anymore, sex drive is on and off but hey has definitely improved. My energy is getting better. I go on hikes for up to about 4 hours and run around on Mt. Hood for up to 8 hours doing photography and I do great most of the time. I am also staring school back up in a month at Portland State University to finish my bachelors degree and go to grad school to be a Physicians Assistant. Maybe I will be of some assistance in the Allopathic community. I still have my good and my bad days but I am getting there. It is not a sprint its a marathon. It takes LOTS of time, rest, patients, and faith that you will get better. I am taking neurosciences products Calm CP, Travacor, DL phenylalanine, and there will be one other that we add in here pretty soon. Not sure what it is called but it is an alternative to their product Excitaplus because I dont handle rhodiola well at all. I have had to take a few steps forward and then take a few steps back. Even with my suppliments when I was going through a lot of stress (loss of my job, girlfriend, and cat in the same week). But you just have to take it like a man (or woman) and push forward and know that you WILL get better if you allow yourself. Now I am not 100% better and have have bad days and get so frustrated as though I will never be myself again but you just HAVE TO BELIEVE. It is possible and many people do heal. It just takes lots of time and rest. I know I wrote a novel but find that I always want more info about peoples treatments so here is mine. Lots of rest, relaxation, do what you enjoy, and take your suppliments religiously as if your life depended on staying strict with all of this. Because in a sense it does. I also find that a teaspoon of sea salt with water in the morning helps a lot. Its gross and you have to get it down fast, but it helps. I hope all this helps and I feel for everyone of you who are also going through this. Its very real and very difficult but hang in there it only gets better from here.
Hi! I found out about my adrenal fatigue in November. My husband is a medical professional and he was very skeptical about adrenal fatigue because there isn't much official literature like medical studies out there about it. Because of me, he's now a firm believer in it. I am a CLASSIC case. Also, I was on antidepressants for over 10 years prior. After weaning off of them and a host of other prescription drugs, I am doing much, much better. I limit my grain intake and have tried at all cost to avoid sugar. (I also found out I have a corn allergy at the same time I was diagnosed with AF.)
That's good but you've got to understand the same protocol doesn't work for everyone. There are people that are bedridden with AF. Herbs like Ashwagandha can make people in this situation feel worse.
I, too, used to suffer from chronic insomnia. After reading Dr. William Jeffries' book and going on 20 mg/day of cortisol, I am sleeping every night. Every symptom you mention is a symptom of low cortisol. Hydrocortisone (brand name Cortef) can be ordered online if you cannot get a dr. to prescribe it to you.
I am on Cortef as a result of Addison's Disease which is an adrenal gland disease. Go see an Endocronologist and get a complete work up. Addison's to my knowledge is not reversible. The disease can be very dangerous and one should always way a Medic Alert Type pendent to alert someone in the event of an emergency situation. I have suffered from Addison's adn Panhypopituatarism for almost 17 years. I have managed it well until stress or some type of illness invades my system then it is really tough. Wish you the best of luck.
I am suffering as well...I had low blood pressure the other day and my doctor has no idea why. Yes I am a little overweight but not huge, I eat right and blood pressure is better than 120! I am healthy otherwise...what type of yoga do you do? I am going to yet another naturopath as no doctor or specialist seems to be able to help me. Man this is so exhausting!
YES!!!!!!!! No western doctor would help me and made me feel crazy and I became really sick for 2 years. I am seeing a naturpath- She has me on adrenal suppements with many other things - started on a machine that evaluates entire body and treats for most immediate issues- Adrenal fatigue is so serious - major life changes - from diet - to behavioral - to emotional boundaries for self - to not over - exercising- and the latest - 1/8 to 1/4 tsp of pink himalayan sea salt in a cup of hot water every morning.
You probably were in Adrenal fatigue status (and perhaps not depression), 5 years ago, very few Dr's believed in or practiced in Adrenal Fatigue. I'm glad you seeing a DR who understands Adrenal Fatigue. Woohooo. I do believe Dr is right, weening you off your drugs. The drugs could also be taxing your adrenals.
I had been tired with no energy for a couple years. As soon as you say tired people think depressed. No, my brain is not tired but my body. I could not tolerate adrenal supplements as my tongue swelled up from them, made from pig & cow. But DHEA gave me my life back again! Like a switch was turned on in body immediately! Get or order a saliva test to see where your DHEA & cortisol is then you can buy DHEA in any health food store. Don't go over 50. Start at 25. I also take other hormones such as estrogen, progesterone & testosterone. I am under care of physicians for this hormone replacement. Good luck! You can get your energy back.
Going any of the either TCM therapy can be a great solution for your problem. I was recently recovered from similar problem with the hep of Acupuncture. I think, the TCM practitioners which performs acupuncture based on trigger point therapy is a great solution to these kind of problems.
