My doctor told me to be patient and allow 10-14 days for the trazodone to work. I don't know what happened but 2 weeks ago I was fine but then decided to stop smoking and cut out alcohol then I was diagnosed with h pylori and its been just about no sleep for about 2 weeks. I read that in the beginning it may increase ones anxiety does anybody have any info on this?

Trazadone.. My worst enemy.I've been on trazadone for 2 years and 7 months. This pill helps me sleep but when I wanna take a nap I can never fall asleep, maybe just a little cat nap but nothing more.I then started smoking pot to see if that would counter-act the effects of trazadone. I felt horrible. After 4 days of being off of it those nights were the worst (tossing and turning at night). Then all through the summer I slept fine until starting school up again. Now I just take 100mg. I used to take 200mg, but since it has been out of my system for 2 months I take half the "mg".This is how I advanced so quickly to 200mg in less than 1 1/2 years.I used to use it at night to get high. I started at 10mg move to 20mg then 50mg then onto 100mg then I had to take 175mg until finally 200mg.I hope now I don't have to up the dosage anymore at all!!!

I have been on trazadone for a week now. The first night was dreadful and I don't think I have felt that ill since I had proper flu. I had chills, fever, headache and a terrible hangover feeling, when I did lightly sleep I had nightmares and woke in a confused state, not knowing whether they were real or not! However, I stuck with it (not really knowing why) and I'm glad I did. I can sleep now (it took a few days after hardly any sleep for the past 3 months). My mood is lifting too and I'm less anxious. I do still get that hungover feeling in the morning, a slight pressure on my head and I have nightmares, the dreams are the weirdest ever but I'm hoping they will calm down.

200 is alot for Trazadone (for sleep). I would try to get back down to 100 to cut down side effects of withdrawls. I sometimes take 50 to 75 miligrams of Benedryl with the Trazadone for alittle extra help sedating.

They put me on Trazodone 100mg. 2 weeks ago instead of Triliptal that I had been taking for years and I have had the best sleep I have had for somewhere around 5 years. My only caution to you would be don't take it too late, until you get adjusted you can experence a drougy or bubble head feeling the following morning.

I see alot of you taking trazodone and a few have said to me in the past that it made them more anxious at first. i have been taking 25 mg for two weeks now and not sleeping that good and it does seem to have increased my anxiety. ill keep taking it if it will go away- but how long will it take? my dr said to stop taking it if "thats what i want", but shes the dr and i wanted her professional opinion.

my main question is, how long did it take to kick in for you guys. should i still not be sleeping after two weeks and having more anxiety? ive changed my dosage around in the begininning from 12, to 25 to 37 to 50 then to 37 and 25, but have been at 25 for at least 4 days and it doesnt help. my second question is have any of you stopped taking it after only two weeks and are there w/d effects. my dr said i could stop tonight and take remeron instead, but im a little skeptical staring something new. anyones experiences with any of this would be helpful. love you guys and have you all in my prayers, maria

To Maria--25 miligrams is low for sleep. Usually people take 50 to 100 grams for sleep. You should have very little side effects from stopping at 25 miligrams. It's not a good idea to take more than 100 miligrams for sleep cause the side effects will be strong if you try to stop at that level.

I have been taking the 25 to 50 mg of Trazodone off and on for about a year now with other anti-depression meds.  It didn't seem to work when I was taking Prozac or Zoloft so they tried other stuff.  Now on Effexor we tried it again and with the 50mgs of trazodone I sleep like a log with some strange dreams, not nightmares just weird and with some really neat and happy near the end..(where I am extremely powerful and rich for some reason or another)...  I looked it up and 50mgs seems to be the most to use if for sleep though especially with use with other anti-depression meds.  Please make sure you tell your doctor of any thing weird that is happening to you on the drug, it is very important so they can adjust or find something else for you.  Eventually I want to be off all anti-depression meds and any sleep meds but right now they are a great help at this time..

How long did it take to work ? I have taken it 2 nights 50mgs and no sleep at all. I am really discouraged. I feel like I will never sleep again . My Doctor said your body has to get used to it. Did you sleep the very first night ?

Yes, I have been taking Trazadone for almost a year. My doctor told me it is non-habit forming, and I could take it for the rest of my life. I have had no side effects. I take 50 mgs.

I take 150mg nightly for a sleepaid. I was taking a 100mg since was dose was increased Ive had terrible headaches. And I still have to take over the counter sleep aids pluse the Trazodone to sleep. I feel better emotionally on them but the side affect of the headache sucks.
