I do not suffer from depression but I have sleep problems==trouble falling asleep==waking in the middle of the night for 2 or 3 hours==music playing in my head, etc.
I find that taking 50mg Trazodone with 6mg Melatonin and 500mg Magnesium helps me fall asleep. Using Trazodone alone does not make me drowsy and using Melatonin alone doesn't help me sleep through the night...
Anyone have any better ideas? I've also tried Klonopin but have a hard time ordering it over the internet...alas, no insurance, no doctor, no medical care.

I have been taking this medicine and haven't had much success.  Zanax for me does a better job. Also Loraxepam also helps me sleep.

I have been taking trazodone for a few months now and it is working perfect! I take 50 mg an hour before I would like to go to sleep and within an hour or maybe a little over I am asleep. I like this medicine because it is not a "knockout" pill. I take this for chronic insomnia, not depression. I am a college student and I went from sleeping 2-4 hours a night (if I was lucky, sometimes just not sleep at all) to sleeping 8-10 hours a night!

i was prescribed Trazodone for depression and lack of sleep. I took 10mg before bed for 3 nights and I can honestly say I have never felt so unwell in my life!! I would take one around 9pm and by 2/3am I would wake up and experience head rush do bad I thought my head was going to explode then I'd vomit violently for at least 30 minutes before trying to go back to sleep only to fail due to extreme trembling and cold sweats! Then all the next day I would feel very disorientated, dizzy, drowsy, nauseous almost as if if drunk a litre of vodka.. After my 3 day nightmare I decided not to take Trazodone anymore and went onto Sertaline and Tamazepam and they work a treat. I don't know if it was just a bad reaction I experienced or if they were just common side effects but I would never take them again!!

I am in need of some help.  I have been taking Klonopin for about two years for sleep, I have taken many things over the years Klonopin was the most recent.  Every few months I try to go off of it but of course I cannot sleep without it and I start to lose my mind completely after about 5 days with no sleep so I keep going back on it.  Even if I try to taper off its a disaster because I do not sleep at all at a lower dose.  I used to take 50mg of Trazadone for sleep for many years and it worked great then one day it stopped working.  It has been about five years since last using the Trazadone so the Dr recommended I try it again but not with the Klonopin.  For two nights I have taken the Trazadone and no Klonopin.  I haven't slept at all.  My body aches, my head aches, I'm shaky, nauseated and can barely talk to my clients on the phone as my speech seems all messed up too, I can't get a word out properly to save my life!  I don't know what to do, does anyone know if soon this will end and perhaps the trazadone will kick in?  Perhaps I am just having withdrawls from the Klonopin. Ugh, I just don't know what to do and if this will soon end.  Help if anyone has any ideas?!?  THANKS!!

I have been totally off trazadone now for about 2 wks. The first 2 nights were hell. Finally about a week ago I tried melatonin, and it has been great. No drowsiness or feeling drugged in the morning, thought that it might help you.

I just started taking trazodone to help me sleep at night because I have anxiety and I worry the most at night, and the first night it did work! I didn't wake up the whole night, not to go to the bathroom or anything. It was nice to get some sleep. I am on 50mg and i think it was a bit strong. So, tonight i'm going to try cutting it in half down to 25 mg. I woke up tired from it and my eyes were red and dry and also my mouth was a bit dry. All of your comments on here were helpful! I'm usually afraid to take meds, but It's worth it to me so I feel better in the day and I'm able to drive and not be worried about getting in an accident because of no sleep. :)

I was given trazodone for sleep aid after having a prescription of 400 mg seroquel per night on top of a klonopin and cymbalta medication
I'm prescribed 100 mg, but I usually have taken (I've almost never taken trazodone on a nightly basis) around 250-300 mg.
At first it left me hung over in the morning, feeling kind of lethargic but not any more than seroquel did.
Now I find it doesn't help make me tired, but if I lay down, sooner or later I will just black out until the next morning.
I prefer to take seroquel - and still do, but am resorted to trazodone after I run out of seroquel too early in the month.
I was originally given it to use it for problems when taking seroquel with waking up in the middle of the night due to anxiety/stress/panic etc etc blah blah.
So yeah. Idk if this helps any one...

I've been on trazode for 6 years now( I'm 47 soon to be 48) 100mg then 150 mg and finally 200mg mostly for sleep problems, but i was told it would help with depression and anxiety as well ( lots of extras huh what a plus... I'm going off this GREAT stuf cold turkey, i'm just sick of the fuzzyness that i feel in the morning as well as the--- snacking--- through the night when the meds start to where off---  i wake up--- as time went on i would fall asleep fine, but would wake up about 3 to 4 hours later and find myself snacking because i wasnt sleeping. I got into the habit of snacking at night believing it would some how slooth me and enable me to fall back to sleep and yes over the years ive gone from size 2 -4-6-and finaly 8---" Trazadone is just not working the way it was intended "and ive had it with upping the dose and tring to make it work for me and by the way I have tryed other sleep aids, I begining to think old fashion exercise is the way to go!!  i'm dealing with sleepless nights and getting throught it ! its been 6 days now and most of symptoms are getting better no more teary eyed stuff (i foiund out that that was another with draw symptom from this great drug) as of the 5th day and by the way I might add I feel clear in moring not fuzzy like ive felt for years on this drug when i would wake up "even with less sleep". I believe it will keep getting better with time. What a relief im looking forward to a normal sleep with a ( ream cycle) and no more pills!!!!

I absolutely love Trazedone. Unlike some others, I take it as needed. It helps me sleep when I simply can't. It's wonderful, and (for me) has absolutely no side effects.
