For two years, I have taken a 10mg Valium and 12.5 mg Trazodone to sleep.  I sleep at least 8 hours.  I had tried a small

dose of Klonopin to sleep, and it worked at first, but then my body starting kind of a inward trembling(shaking inside body) in the night, so

my doctor switched me to Trazodone.  Rarely do I have a sleepless night.  This prescription has worked very well for me.

I took 50 mg trazodone for sleep for about a year. It did a great job at helping me sleep well and the doctor told me it would not be addicting. But recently (within the last few days), I have decided to go off and quit cold turkey. What a mess, I haven't slept for 3 days straight. Once I get straightened out, I will never take a med again to sleep!! It's insane!

Why in the world would you stop "cold turkey". ?

I made the huge mistake of getting on trazodone a few years back. A year ago I started tapering off then quit taking it all together. I dealt with the misery of sleep deprivation for 4 months before going back on it. After a few months I'm back fighting it. The odd thing was that I feel more rejuvenated when I slept for 3 hours off the trazodone than when I sleep for 11 on it. To me it's just a sedative to get you doped up so you can lose consciousness but I certainly don't get proper sleep, even if I sleep for 12 hours on it. At one point in my life I was sleeping well and I remember what it is supposed to feel like when you wake. And walking around like a zombie for half the day doesn't help much with my depression.  I figure even if it takes a couple years for me to get proper function back I want to fix one of the worst mistakes I've made in my life. If anyone is thinking about going on trazodone, I'd sooner recommend a coctail of oxycontin and xanax, it is MUCH easier to get off of.

I think you were on too high a dose if you were groggy for a half day.I am kind of groggy for an hour but come out of it when i get busy doing something. I went off it before and once again NO SLEEP. I am going to stay on it again for awhile because i need the sleep. I am a much nicer person when i have had a good nights sleep. The side effect that botherts me, is the dry mouth. I reccomend giving trazadone a try. My philosophy is Sleep is better than no sleep.
