Had my appendix removed 7 weeks ago & within the last 2 weeks, I have gained at least 10 pounds it feels like & im always hungry now.. I mean ALWAYS. idk what is going on but has anyone found anything that makes this stop or help it to go away? Besides working out & eating right of course. I mean, me eating like this isn't like my normal self.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Before I had my appendix removed at 20, I weighed about 123 lbs and dropped to 110 lbs almost instantly. After that, I continued to lose weight and have found myself to weigh as low as 102 lbs at times. I don't go to the gym but I do some yoga for flexibility and hooping but that's about it besides walking my dogs and standing at work. I really don't try to lose weight because I eat just about anything too. Hopefully this info helps you narrow down what could be causing your weight gain. Good luck!
I'm 23 and had my appendix removed 3 weeks ago, I've lost 14 pounds. I used to be 153 and I'm 139. I've been eating normal for the last week but the week of my surgery I was only liquids. I am a really active person and before surgery I used to workout 5-6 days a week. My clothes are big on me and while I have noticed that my belly is flatter and my legs skinnier, I know I've probably lost a lot of muscle too so I hope I get it back after I recover. My arms are not as toned as they used to be and I lost half of my butt which I'll probably get back when I start working out again.
My brother has also gone through the appendix removal and is now suffering from the weight gain problem. Do know how he will be going to lose his excess weight.
Hello everyone. I am writing on this because I want to share my appendix removal story as well. I had surgery 5years ago because my appendix erupted so it was pretty bad. I lost 20 pounds in the process. I was 20 years old and now I am 24 turning 25 I have gained about 30 pounds. The funny part is that I eat very healthy I run every single day. I dont see any results and now I am depressed. I get blowted every time I eat. My body changed so much since my appendix removal. I have not been the same since. Can anyone please help me??
Hi i'm 27 and got mine out 6 months ago and have put on 6 kgs. I was wondering what it was or maybe I was getting older but I hit the gym and eat the same way its so weird and sad!
Same here, not to that extreme but I've lost more than half a stone in the 10 days following the operation and ive been eating plenty!
I had the same problem as A lot of you on here - I was A skinny kid until I had my appendix out . Had A weight problem ever since. I was 8 years old when I had my appendix removed . I Truly think it is water retention. They say they don't know what the Appendix is for but GOD Put it there for A reason !!!! I , now as an older adult retain water and am bloated constantly. I just got water pills from my doctor. Check with your doctor's and see if your weight gain is water retention !!!! GOD Bless you All !!!!! Hey , maybe we should start our own Group our club all of us that had our appendix removed !!!!! ,,
I am 72, and had an appendectomy ( appendix had burst) 2 years ago. I was never fat, but had gained a little weight when I stopped working ( my work involved A LOT of walking!) . But since my appendix was taken out, I just ballooned! I haven't changed anything in my eating habits and am convinced that huge weight gain ( I also suddenly aged 10 years!) has to do with the appendectomy! Yes, I know the good doctor says it has nothing to do, but I say the appendix was there for a reason...now, I miss it!!!
I had mine removed 1 year ago and have gone from 9st to 20st
I wrote the post I am responding to...now over a year later I can confidently say that probiotics, fermented foods and apple cider vinegar (I take capsules) are miracles that helped me lose weight. I do watch what I eat a bit more and do yoga/gym but I haven't been as disciplined lately and haven't gained any weight. I highly highly recommend giving these things an honest, consistent try. They definitely worked for me. As for the function of the appendix, I have read that it stored good bacteria that helps increase metabolism. So when it is removed, you have to replace the good bacteria in your gut. Hence why the probiotics, fermented foods and apple cider vinegar work. Good luck!
I've got no doubt that appendectomy causes weight gain. I've experienced this problem too. It's the loss of the appendix storing hormones that suppress appetite and storing toxins which leads to the weight gain.
I am a 19 yr old teenage . Had my appendix removed at 17. Since then I have too lost weight. Now I am 15 kgs underweight of my height chart standards.
Exactly. No one has a straight answer to this..
