Hello. I am a guy 35 years old and I am a doctor. I have a lot of kids coming in because of eating disorders. Mainly bulimia and anorexia. This is really getting out of control! Are the parents aware of the outburst of eating disorders? How can it be possible? I really don't understand. I think that something should be done about it.
It looks like they are not. But you know how it goes. They hear it on the news, read it in the papers, and they think that it is not going to happen to their kids. And that's how it goes. It is just the way it is. The only thing that can and is to be done is to raise public awareness, or it is going to get out of the control. If it hasn't already.
If I don't answer this it will bother me, yes, I see the date this was posted. Think about this for a minute. Watching game shows, soap operas, television series, what do you see? The thin models on 'Deal or No Deal', The models in little dresses on 'The Price is Right', and all the people who are in the acting field are all thin, mostly every woman is. You have probably heard this many times by now, but the way society is, with all the really thin models, and actresses, girls perceive the idea that guys wont like them if they don't look like the models. All the fat, sugar and unhealthy foods advertised is the other side. Eating all of those foods is unhealthy which causes most to be overweight who have a consistent diet of fast/fatty foods. Most get our fear of eating those foods, afraid if we eat that we won't fit in our jeans the next morning. We are all self cautious to an extent, so the fear of becoming 'fat', which is basically anything over a size "9" somehow, and having the 'hot' guys not like us girls, is a let down for us.
Think about it, we are obsessed over make-up because it covers our flaws, is hides our blemished skin to a point, and defines the face. It makes us look pretty, it makes us feel like we are a part of society instead of standing out. Being an outcast, or something. No one likes rejection. It's been around for ever, there is just a sudden outburst of it because of the images the media shows. What is a 10 year old kid supposed to think when they see a thin, sexy looking model in a bra for Victoria's Secret? The guys think something among the lines of 'WOW! Shes HOT!' the girls think ' why can't I look like that?' If you look around the beach you see the cute guys with the cute thin girls and such, do you ever really see anything else?
It is a shame I have to grow up in this 'world'. The people where they can not stay true to their vows with their partners. Where you can't walk the street alone with-out having the fear in the back of your mind of people who want to kidnap you. Kill you. Assault you. Force you into prostitution. The people who make offenses on children, who is to say they are NEVER going to do that again? (They WILL eventually!) Its like bulimia or anorexia, it will always be in the back of your mind, whether you are the victim, or the predator. You won't stop until you get help, because you know you can't. For the fear of becoming fat, ugly, outcast, unpopular. You want to hurt yourself just to fit in, or because others thing you are fat because you are over the "skinny size 9". For all I know the 'size limit' could be like 7. I honestly do not know. It is like all the 'popular trends now', but this really does effect you and can (most likely will) stay with you.
