We are surrounded by this word arthritis, but I wonder how much do we actually know about this disease. I, for example, know just that is a disease that causes pain and loss of movement of the joints. I do not know what this word means, and anything more about arthritis. I guess there are different kinds of arthritis, but I do not know. I wonder should we all get involved a little bit more into suffering of other people. That is why I would like to start knowing more about this disease.

I want to begin explaining what the word arthritis literally means. That is joint inflammation, as arth is joint, and ritis is inflammation. That is true there are different kinds, since this term refers to more than 100 different diseases. Arthritis affects the movements that person rely on for everyday activities. Arthritis is usually chronic, and this means that it can last on and off for a lifetime. In addition to the joints, some forms of arthritis are associated with diseases of other tissues and organs. People of all ages, including children and young adults, can develop this disease. Inflammation is a reaction of the body that causes swelling, redness, pain, and loss of motion. That is the major physical problem in the most serious forms of arthritis. During this reaction, many cells of the body's defense system rush to the injured area to wipe out the cause of the problem, and clean up damaged cells.
