I agree 100%. I feel that CPS is understaffed and has been unable to sever these parents rights because there are so many doing methadone while preggers. No one worries about it because they are certain they'll get away with it. I feel if CPS took babies sooner and permanently, it would make an example out of some, sadly, but it would deter others. Right now no one worries about the consequences.

I'm sure the baby didn't die because the mom was on methadone, my mom lost 3 sons full term and was the healthiest pregnant women I knew so there could be many reasons why that baby passed and if she nods off her dose is to high I never see people nod when their dose stable.

I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and on 42 mg of methadone and my biggest fear is my baby having to stay in NICU for 30 days and suffering I have tried to get off of the methadone and my dr refuses. I'm really scared so if there are mothers that don't mind talking to me about their experience please post something to help ease my mind thanks in advance

Hello, I just wanted to say that I am a mom that went through the same as your daughter. My mom didn't understand either. She didn't know how to support me. I went through post partum with all my pregnancies but going through the guilt of what I put my baby through and leaning on my mother who had no idea of what I was going through caused me to relapse. She got custody of my oldest who was 7 at the time and Lyla, the baby who I'm talking about, was 3 months. I was alone and everyone was surprised that I survived. Lyla didn't like to be held. She didn't like clothes or anything to confining. She was born 5 pounds 12 oz but she was a really good eater. She was born 2 weeks early. My mother and I had to massage her muscles because they would spasm. Now she 13. I see her every day. She's my middle child but still treated like she's a princess. Her birthday was the day of the eclipse. That told me that she is a very special little girl. She is in advance classes in school. She gets straight A's and she says that she works hard to be a perfect child, which she is! My oldest daughter has a lot of resentments still bc I left my kids with my mom to get better. But Lyla doesn't know what happened and since that information would only bring her pain me and my mom will never tell her and my oldest promised not to either. Me and my mom has went through a lot but our relationship is now much better. My advice to you is to please have patience with your daughter too. Don't go and try to understand why she did what she did because you never will. Encourage her to get into counseling and stay with it. Church also helps me a lot. Maybe you can go to church with her. Stay positive. The afflictions that that baby has might not even be because she was on methadone. The baby just might be colic. All your daughter needs is love and support and the more she has the faster she will get better. It took me 10 years of sobriety to handle what life throws at me without stumbling because I didn't have much of that stuff, love and support. My mom did the best that she could but because she didn't understand it was hard for her to do that. So don't concentrate on the things that you can't understand concentrate on that baby and your daughter's well-being. Things will get better. All it takes is time.

It funny how you mothers act like you did nothing wrong when your baby is addicted to drugs. You should have stopped do all drugs when you got pregnant. Or even better knowing you are a f*****g drug addicte not get pregnant. You might think it's ok but I think your a weak no good piece of sh*t so call me what you want my babies were born perfect oh maybe cause I didn't do drugs while pregnant!!!

Some women some are on birth control some even had their tubes tied when they got pregnant and some women again some are on it for pain management not because they were addicted or a drug addict

I would just like to make a quick comment. I have a daughter, now 2, born on methadone, she had minimal withdrawal. She is now smart healthy and happy child. She had no issues as she grows. The person who said that she knows her neighbor adopted 2 children born on methadone, and are now 2 and 9yrs old and still have withdrawal this is medically impossible. I'm not saying that having a baby on methadone is ideal but if do it isnt a horrible thing. People need to stop judging people and learn the facts. Good luck to the Moms and Dads dealing with this be strong change the stereotypes. Mom's on methadone can be good mom's too and even Dad's.

To whomever wrote the post that methadone is terrible your wrong. To us people on it especially expecting mothers who are taking methadone we know the benefits of it and most of the risks as well. For most of us former addicts the benefits of methadone out weight the risks by far. If anyone is anything like me I hit rock bottom from me using lost everything even my family stopped talking to me accept my mother and husband and i probably hurt them the worst stealing from them selling everything that was worth anything.im 26 years old I've been off the streets and drugs for 2 years my life is finally normal after battling drug addiction since I was 16. Now mine and my husband's relationship is perfect we are expecting our son in the next 4 weeks and I've made up with my family again and everything is finally becoming perfect. Except for my mother/My best friend suddenly passed away last November that made me relapse but only for a couple of months I got back on my methadone in March which was my mother's birthday and then found out in May I was pregnant with our miracle baby boy that me and my husband had been trying for for the 2 years before that I was clean and nothing so I feel like my mother pushed me to get clean again and helped us have our baby so by reading my story methadone has been 1 of the best things besides getting married to the love of my life and us getting pregnant so please don't be judgemental about methadone if you've never been on it because u have no idea ok so please don't speak bad about it this post was for mom's like me who are trying 2 get more info about babies being born while mother on methadone and don't blame and illness on methadone because there's no proof of your statement I'm sorry for your nephew and grandson are sick but this is not appropriate place to put down people on methadone us mothers are already stressed about our LO'S being born with NAS and hospital stay so again please don't misjudge it

You only get a certain dose per day.. you don’t get high on methadone. Methadone has saved a lot of people’s lives.. I have friends who would of died from the opiates they were taken.. they got help from he methadone program and it helped them have a normal life again and change their lives around .. then they were weaned off the methadone after some time !!!

Methadone is considered a better alternative than the drugs but there is absolutely still risk and a 60 to 80% chance of withdrawal not to mention other life long impacts on the baby. Obviously best not to get pregnant when addicted or stop using right away. It is true that stopping using late in pregnancy can cause problems but this is usually the 3rd trimester. To consider the baby's issues after birth not related to drug exposure is ignorant
