Just to let you know as I've had 4 children on methadone ages 18, 14, and 5 year old twins and it's NOT a 60% to 80% chance of the baby having withdrawals it's actually a 50/50 chance. "Most" which I actually thought ALL hospitals have a 5 day mandatory stay for wemon who are on Methadone/Suboxone/Subtext or any meds for that matter. I've took Methadone for a long time due to I have Lupus now I'm not ashamed to say I first began methadone because I was an Addict, however once I was diagnosed with Lupus I was moved to a pain Management center with all that said hospital do a NAS scoring system in newborns that are born "dependant" as newborns can not be born addicts. My 18 year old was born on 85mlgs of methadone and went through absolutely no withdrawals and she is very smart she graduated at age 16 and is in her 2nd year of Vet college. My 14 year old is in 9th grade and she too is very smart. I was on 60mlgs of methadone with her and she had no withdrawals either. My twins were born 6 weeks and 4 days early and I was on 40mlgs with them they done really good up until day 5 and the Dr. did medicate them with .01 mlgs of methadone 3 times a day then on day 7 they went to .01mlgs 2 times a day then on day 9 they was put on 1 time a day then once they weighted 5 pounds which was day 11 they was sent home with their meds and when I took them for a check up a week after they was sent home the doctor told me they had outgrown their dose to take them off which I was scared to do but did what he told me and they done just fine. I breastfed all 4 of my children while on methadone up until they was 2 years old. When I started methadone it was the beginning of my life my husband and I planned all our children but the twins and I can literally say methadone saved my life and has made me the woman, mom and wife I am today as a RECOVERING ADDICT! ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of web addresses or advertising them is not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
WRONG!!!! A newborns chance of having withdrawals is 50/50 not 60 to 80 percent not to mention a baby doesn't become an addict they are dependant such as people that have to take meds due to Bi-poler or Type 1 Dibeties that rely on insulin. I've had 3 pregnancies and 4 children on methadone. My life began once I got stable on methadone and I wasn't going to stop living this wonderful chance at life I've been giving. I have a group on FB about mother's on methadone and Suboxone and actually there's alot of older children that was born on methadone/Suboxone and with what research I've gathered there's been NO long term outcome. My children that ive had while on methadone are ages 18, 14, and 5 year old twins. My 18 year old graduated at age 16 and is in her 2nd year old college to become a vet. My 14 year old is a A and B honor roll 9th grader. Then my 5 year old twins which are in kindergarten even though they turned 5 in October Because they took a pre test and past to go on up to kindergarten. Once a newborn gets over their dependacy at birth there is NO SCIENTIFIC FACTS showing it harms them as they get older ACTUALLY studies show that methadone babies tend to be more smart. But I believe it in how they are raised. My 18 year old don't drink don't smoke and don't club she's not perfect but I can say I'm one blessed mom because she works hard to get through college. I really think before people on these threads start calling people ignorante they should maybe stop saying ignorant things and back up what they are saying with scientific facts. Shame on you for calling people ignorant but not having any facts to back up your comment.
