Hello! I have been fighting hepatitis B for about four years and I am also HIV positive. Last year my doctor started with hepsera therapy which showed very good results for the first time. My laboratory results were good and I was satisfied. But, on my last check up the results were getting worse, although I was still feeling good. My doctor decided to add Baraclude 0,5 mg to my treatment. Has anyone tried this combination before?
Hi! Actually I don't know anyone personally who tried this combination but I've heard about it. As I know 15% to 20% of patients treated with Hepsera developed drug-resistant virus after four years. Maybe this is your case. If this happens the virus becomes resistant to the drug you are using and your condition becomes worse. Also, Entecavir (Baraclude) is showed superior to Adefovir (Hepsera) and Epivir (Lamivudine) and I think that virus resistance didn't occur in patients treated with Baraclude. Still, there is no enough evidence of the superiority of combined HBV treatment. It is not strange that you are also HIV positive since some researches showed that almost 50% of HBV infected patients were confected with HIV.
