I had mines for 5 years also and just had it removed about 3 weeks ago. I started my cycle on the 1st of January....happy New Year's and it lasted for 7 days back to normal heavy flowing so once it stopped I was fine until I had sexual intercourse and then I started back bleeding again. I had the IUD removed December 18th, no intercourse until January 1st afterwards I started my cycle for 7 days on the 8th day intercourse then I started bleeding again so when will I be back on track??????

Oh god reading all this terrifies me!

I was having pain so had my Mirena IUS coil removed as the doctor found it had slipped and was sitting in the neck of my cervix.
However prior to this it was the best thing i ever did, after insertion I had 18months of no cramps/periods/mood swings, it was wonderful!
I had abnormal results from a smear so had a colposcopy, 2 biopsies and my IUS whipped out all at once and put it this was i have been in agony since with cramps and pain shooting up my back and down my legs.
After removal of my IUS i was put straight back onto a pill as "it helps the body return to normal". I had some spotting but nothing else.
It was removed on the Friday and by monday i was crippled in pain and am bleeding a lot. I was terrified as I was passing huge clots and watery black liquid coming out of me which is old blood apparently. I seeked advice and was told that so long as the blood doesn't go bright red and is saturating a sanitary pad then to try to wait it out (the red blood can indicate infection).
This morning (5 days after removal) i am passing lots of little clots and bleeding this weird black substance still. I can't wait for it to stop. I don't know how much longer I can cope with this!!
I was advised to book an appointment with my specialist 7 days after removal if it was still on-going but as others have said I feel they will just turn around and say it needs to come out so deal with it.
Really struggling with it though.
If this is the result of the mirena I will not get it put back in despite how great I found it.

Your story seems exactly like mine except for the post baby bc I have no children. All the days match up as well but my thing is I'm struggling to contain the blood. I switched to cloth pads two years ago but have not been able to use them during this process and the disposable ones seem not able to catch up. I just woke up to blood everywhere and when I sat on the toilet it felt like a tampon fell out which I'm sure I didn't have in. This seems like what a miscarriage may be like but with little to no pain. It's ruining my underwear and I am constantly gushing. Anyone know of a better containment option??

I'm in the exact same boat as a lot of you. I just had my mirena removed on Tuesday, 2 days ago and was bleedingthe moment Ieft. And it got worse today. No cramping, not feeling crummy. Have to change my pad every 2-3 hours. I've looked up that is normal to give it a few weeks. And within a couple months your period should return to normal. If I knew this before I wouldn't of agreed to have it. I would have just dealt with my period.

Hi I had a Mirena in for 3 days only!! I got a terrible reaction to it and asked my GP to remove it. I got instant relief but I am now on week 4 and still have a period. The weird thing about this is my GP put me on the pill straight away. Which I did and I skip my periods when I'm on it. So to be on the pill, skip periods and still be bleeding is wearing me down. Please can someone tell me when their bleeding stopped. Thanks

I just had mine removed 4 days ago and I am bleeding a lot! I just got up and ran to the bathroom because of how much blood started to come out of me.. So is this normal? The doctors took mine out because of the immense amount of pain I was in because they found it slightly embedded and was extremely painful with removal... So reading comments, am I to expect 2 more weeks of this heavy heavy flow? :( btw my periods were normal and on a consistent cycle.

I had my Mirena for 2 weeks & couldn't deal w the pain. I have a very high pain tolerance but felt like I was in extreme depression while using. The day they took it out I felt my entire body relax. I have been bleeding since (4 days) w clots & bright red. Today was the worst. I have considered going to the ER bc I feel dizzy but it sounds like this is normal according to others' experience. I wish I would have read this post first. It's been a miserable experience & my doc was worthless in explaining what it would b like--during & after.

I'm also relieved I'm not alone. I've been avoiding "Google" in case of horror stories but I stumbled across this thread and need to share my experience. I've had the Mirena for just over a year and removal was 14 days ago, first 6 days were great, no bleeding but just a few small spots, day 7, 8 & 9 was normal flow and day 10, 11 & 12 I've been bleeding bright red, I've been passing clots the size of chicken tenderloins three times a day and changing pads every hour and sometimes 3 hourly (depending if I'm standing, walking or laying down). The flow slows when laying down. Then the last 2 days the clots have been the size of a chicken breast. I've passed two in 2 days. It's actually like I'm laboring my placenta again. I'm so tired, I'm obviously anaemic so need some iron tablets. I've lost 3kg in 14 days after removal and no change in diet or exercise. During the Mirena I gained 6kgs and again, no change in diet or exercise then either and an extremely cranky disposition in my day to day life. So snappy and cranky! That's all disappearing now too. For now I'm hoping the clots will stop. I'm in private health, it's a 4 week wait minimum to see my OB/GYN but I'm sure I'll only be told that this is all normal. I'm regretting having the IUD for a start. I had tubal ligation 10 years ago but the Mirena was meant to slow the flow...Which it, did but I had constant spotting for 10 months of that year. If I knew this would be the result after removal, I would never had agreed to it. I hope this info is helpful to some people. Nothing is going to be suitable for every single person but I'm just relieved I'm not the only one. I'll never, ever have anything like this again.

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since I had mine taken out.. only had it for 6 months.. heavy bleeding and cramping, although cramping not as bad as the 3rd day after removal -- that was horrible.. how long does this last?? Glad I am not alone with this too
