Thank you for posting this! I had my Lorena for 9.5 years and just had mine removed. I've been bleeding (lightly) and cramping for the past week since removal. Your post put my mind at ease.

My #1 prayer is that someone will read this BEFORE they put this poison in their body referred to as Mirena. I had the Mirena put in after my Implanon was removed (btw, Implanon was incredible, for me. But my OB insisted I got Mirena). I had it in for about 5 years, yes my periods were light but sex sucked; it was painful during and after, I was never "in the mood". I gained about 50 pounds, grew depressed obviously. Usually athletic and excited to work out, I became super tired and lazy all of the time. It took a toll on my relationship, I don't even see why he stayed with me (but he's amazing ☺️)! About a month ago I got the IUD removed. It was a short, sweet procedure and I instantly felt better (just knowing it was out of me gave me so much satisfaction). I was on a light period when it was removed and it eventually ended as normal.... one month later I started my period again (normal). But I have been bleeding since, it's been about 3.5-4 weeks. And if I'm not "bleeding" I have brown discharge (looks like dried up blood). I feel crummy and I long for normalness! I felt as if I have taken 5 steps forward, getting it removed, just to take ten steps back! Don't do it! At this point I wouldn't advise bc at all but obviously people use it for other reasons besides getting pregnant. Nevertheless, the hormonal imbalance and emotional toll is not worth it! I pray after all of this I can even conceive another child. I don't know this for a fact: but I feel like there's got to be some kind of extra financial gain for OBs when they insert Mirena. Do what is best for you and don't be afraid to say no, or ask every question you need to... I wish I would've. Best wishes, ladies!

I removed my mirena after almost 4 years in april 2017. Its July and I still havent stopped bleeding. Ive read somewhere that after having the mirena, our body becomes "lazy" because it relys on the mirena to produce our hormones. After removal, our bodies take a while to start producing hormones by itself. But mines have been 3 months so now im getting worried. Doctors say its 'normal'. SMH

i got mine removed May 12th, didn't have a period in June, spotted for a good week in July and then started my period on July 20th... i haven't stopped bleeding since. i'm 2-weeks into the heaviest period of my life. i feel like what you read might be true, and my uterus is like, cleaning itself out completely of any lining that built up over the 2yrs i had the Mirena in. yesterday i started seeing clots so i'm hoping this means it's coming to and end.

NEVER AGAIN will i get Mirena. i'll stick to the pill if i ever get back on birth control.

After 4mths of the mirena being in and continual bleeding and severe pain i had mine removed today. Massive relief on my body. I do wonder how long bleeding will be. Its been a nightmare having the mirena.

You're blessed. Had mines removed 2 months shy of 5 years and this past Monday was a week and I'm tired of seeing blood. I thought it was disappearing but it's slowly making a come back. I very rarely spotted/bled while on it but I do feel better EXCEPT FOR THE BLEEDING.After your research, how long does it say for NORMAL CYCLE. thanks n advanced

I am two weeks into bleeding after having my IUD removed. I'm guessing this is "normal" since we all seem to having the same issues. But it's concerning me. I've had heavy bleeding and large clots. Now it's just bright red blood. I had normal periods the two years I had the IUD, so I wouldn't think I had a large build up of lining in my uterus. How long does this last?

I had mine for about a year (it was uncomfortable going in but didn't really hurt). It took the doctor about 2 mins to put it in. Coming out only took about 30 seconds and once again was slightly uncomfortable for a second but didn't hurt.
If it was painful going in you may want to take some Tylenol or something 30 mins to a hour before your appointment. Good luck!!

Hi , I had mine for nearly 6 years with no problems at all it was brilliant for me as i was having very heavy bleeding. I am 58 nearly and i had it removed last week and i have belly ache. Reading all these comments it is probably my body adjusting, I don't want to be having periods again at my age. I too have stacked a lot of weight on. I though can't complain about it , it did do it's job but i now feel like i have gone backwards .
