Hi, I had my mirena removed on 23/6/17 after having it for 10 yrs, had light streaks of blood for 2 days afterwards. On 25/6/17 had a normal period for 5 days. I didn't get a second period for 2 months. I even thought I got pregnant immediately but ran 5 home pregnancy tests and all were negative. I finally got my second period on 8/9/17. It's been four days now of really heavy bleeding, cramping and backaches non-stop. Is this normal?
Thank you for your story. It's nice to know I'll hafta keep up iron levels.

Thank you! This has been the smartest, most logical answer I have read online for the last two days. The doctors office just told me “it was normal”. I have been bleeding huge clots of blood for 6 days now. I’m starting to feel weak, and my head is killing me. I had 2 Mirenas back to back. I have been on it for 8 years. This answer makes since! Thank you!
I am having the same problem. I got the IUD because of heavy periods and cramping. I am 53 and thought it would ease me into menapause. I only kept it in for 3 months because I spotted the whole time. I would rather 5 bad days than a whole month of light days. I had a small period right after. Now two weeks later I am bleeding so bad and throwing clots the size of golf balls. It started light on Saturday then Sunday bled through a pad in 30 minutes. Monday light Tuesday bled through a pad in the evening in less ten 10 minutes. Wednesday light, and Thursday heavy in AM then light and now I just woke up 1:30 am Friday - soaked the sheets. I am getting on a plane Saturday for a lovely trip and I can’t believe that this is happening.
I got my mirena in in July and had it removed after 2.5 mo. My period was due 2 days after the removal it was 2 days late. I finally got it (was happy Bc were ttc). It lasted for a day then stopped, came back the next day lasted for a day and stopped. I haven't had any excessive bleeding but the random on and off again "spotting" is starting to get really annoying.
I had in the skyla, i had it removed 1 week now. I can't beat down to use the bathroom in anyway without bleeding heavy. #fustrating.
I just got my mirena out 2 days ago in chair an hr body went into shakes they had alot of trouble finding it as strings werent there. I had it for 4 yrs no periods no probelms i loved it. Bleeding really bad today like a period is that normal or is it because they pulled and poked for an hr to find it and finally remove it im also on 2 antibiotics and pandol fort.
Hi all had my coil removed 7/11/17 due to it moving and causing a miscarriage bleed for 6weeks before removal now bleeding very heavy with very big blood clots is this normal and how long is it suppose to last. Had enough of bleeding already for so long and I feel so tired and drained all the time
Thanks! Helped me alot and a positive post #womanhood
Wait what? I just had mine removed last Thursday and my boyfriend and I had sex the day before and didn't pull out. I'm bleeding heavy but could get pregnant?
I got my coil removed last Wednesday been bleeding and passing massive clots since. Been in the hospital twice and they don’t seem to fussed. Hoping the bleeding stops soon as I can’t stand, cough or drive but I’m covered and the clots get bigger :(.
I was talked into an iud by a new obgyn. I’m in my 40s, suffer from pcos and endometriosis and 30+ years of terrible periods. I also have low estrogen, but cannot take hormones. I was told this would help with the heavy bleeding and be a preventative measure for my gynecological health. I trusted the doc and moved forward.
The insertion process was terrible. The pain lasted 4 weeks, which was coupled with grotesque bloating and major bleeding. I had it removed by a second doctor a week ago, after being told it could cause cysts to grow (one large one did in that time!). The second obgyn was very candid about his opinions and suggested that I should consider ablation.
The removal was jarring, but not painful and the daily cramping and pain ceased immediately. Still slightly bloated but not as much. What hasn’t stopped is the bleeding. I’m officially on week 5, heading into 6 and it’s the worst cycle I have ever experienced. Thick, heavy blood with lots of wall pieces. I was told by two docs that this “is normal.” I don’t think it is and wish I had waited on the iud decision. It’s become somewhat debilitating.
Disappointed on so many levels, but most of all, I would just like to stop bleeding.

I had my Mirena for 2 years - no real bleeding but weight gain and sharp pains in my abdomen that my doctor could not explain.
Had my Mirena out last Tuesday which was easy and nothing for four days. Two days normal bleeding and then boom. The heaviest period I have ever had in my life. The clotting part also scared me. I was told I would get a "fake period" but nothing feels fake about this. Cross my fingers this doesn't go on for too long. Not a fan of this product.

I just had mine removed day before yesterday and im bleeding now hope it doesnt get too heavy i got mine removed because of crazy weight gain
Had marina inserted last Tuesdy on day 4 of my cycle. Insertion was horrific. Nearly passed out. Wasnt at all expecting it. When I eventually sat up I felt it like sticking into me and when I walked it gave a scratching sensation. Went home to read the leaflet to see if this should occur only to realise the doc had inserted the wrong coil. I specically did not want hormones due to a disorder! Next day I woke up ok but 2 hours later the cramps started. I got the coil remoced on Friday and have been bleeding consistently since with a pinchy sensation every now n again. It has been a total diaster and Im not sure if I am bleeding from damage or because I had hormones for 3 days. Any advice..pls help...
