I have had some pretty intense pain in the area under my ear down into my underneath jaw along with severe pain trying to chew on that same side. My mouth goes into overdrive to salivate and hurts like crazy . A PA said it was from a stone blocking the gland. I was given an antiotic and some medrol pack Im not convinced its a blocked gland any ideas?

Hi,

I think your doctor might be right. It is not that uncommon that salivary glands get blocked by stones. Stones are product from crystallization of chemicals in your salivary gland. There is a chance even to have more than one stone in your gland. It can get really complicated. How old are you? This usually happens to people that are older than 40 years of age. Has your gland swollen? Swelling is one of the symptoms of salivary gland stones. If your medication don’t help, there is always an option of surgery, but you will have to talk to your doctor about this. Some say that lemon juice can help with salivary gland stones. Try the lemon and see how it goes.
