So I've been diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) after I started experiencing an abnormal light brown discharge. I had no other symptoms other than the brown discharge. I was put on Metronizadole gel for 5 days, and thru out the entire course of the prescription I experienced the 'normal' cottage cheese looking discharge from the gel, however also accompanied by a pinkish brown hue to it. I finished the medication Monday night. It's been 4 days and I'm still experiencing some unusual discharge. This time, that light brown discharge I had before I went on Metronizadole, is now a very dark brown, almost a black slimy discharge. I've read there have been women who did NOT experience any light brown discharge from BV (unlike myself) before going on Metronizadole, but then started having the brown discharge while using it and after they finished their prescription.
Unfortunately, I get my period in 3 days (I'm on birth control, and take the pill religiously, so it always comes on the same time of day every month), so I'm experiencing some mild to moderate cramping along with this dark brown discharge. So I cant tell if the cramping is in relation to my upcoming period in a few days, or if it's still some how associated with this dark brown discharge and the BV.
My questions are: Did the Metronizadole even work, or do I need a stronger dose? How long will this discharge last, or should normally last? Has anyone else experienced brown discharge when diagnosed with BV, and if so, what was your experience like?
I've read many articles saying that BV is accompanied by a thick, cloudy, mucousy discharge, and haven't read many articles or discussion boards from women having BV with brown discharge. Could I have been misdiagnosed? A few weeks ago I got a pap and everything came back normal, so if it's more than just a bacterial infection from my PH levels being off, wouldn't there have been some, if any, red flags then?
Any kind of input or advice would be much appreciated - - This is stressing me out :(
