Just wanted to quickly add my voice to this choir. I'm a 50 year old male and was put on Clomid to jumpstart my body's testosterone production after getting off HRT. This was more than 10 years ago...but I believe the panic attack happened after about a good week into the prescription.
I truly thought I was either dying or at a minimum, losing my mind: racing thoughts, pounding chest, a feeling of disconnect from reality, crying at the drop of a hat etc. etc. It was easily one of the single worst experiences of my life - and made even more horrible by the endocrinologist's absolute poo-poo-ing of any connection between the attack and the Clomid. I instinctively knew that I had to drop the Clomid and never had another incident of this kind. Very heartened to hear that so many others have also made the connection - I would love to know what action of this drug results in panic attacks for some women and men alike.
I took am a male on and off clomid for post-testosterone therapy, trying to get the LH up to produce natural again. During the night, or early morning, I will often wake up and seem to be more of a witness to strange trains of thought than controlling them. Trying to regain control of the mind is a terrifying process because it's very different than the usual feeling of producing your own thoughts. This usually forces me to jump out of bed and sort of look for any way to snap back into the familiar reality. Certain medications have a horrible interaction, one being Gabapentin, which almost invariably produces a near psychotic feeling of losing one's mind.
