do you pass the test?

As a smoker for 10 years I understand your frustration but your way of preaching is just high and mighty! Your son lies about smoking because he can't trust you to support him and help him, not because he's a bad kid. I was forced to take tests and had all my privileges taken away and was shut in and when I turned 17(In my state, 17 is a legal adult) I went crazy. I died my hair, did all the drugs and rebelled as hard as I could. Don't be so hard on him, but don't give up on him either, my dad walked away from me and I never got over it. Most of my family have had or passed from cancer and I am fightin it now but that didn't effect my smoking choice. It's a disgusting very bad habit but it's a habit and talking down to those of us who do it only makes you more of a target than a helper. Just in my humble Opinion!

It's called "freedom", maybe a concept some of you could look in to. I don't tell you not to eat that hamburger, and you stay out of my business, too. I can only hope this issue will be brought before the Supreme Court at some point and set straight. It's unbelievable to me that these tests are legal at all. At some point we all decide what sort of life we want to live, and it is appalling that some of you think that - even if it doesn't affect you - you should have some say in the way others choose to live. Shame on all of you.

I agree with u....I'm a nurse and I see more and more ppl who come in sick as can be most who got t that way smoking....cpod etc.....who are in the hospital with the exacerbation of said disease and the smoking is so important to them they leave the floor....TO GO SMOKE!....it baffles me the lengths ppl go to for smoking....I'm not judging by any means....but as a health care professional to those undergoing surgery....they are testing u for a reason....it's your life they are keeping in the fore front of their mind.....please do the same for your self....we don't do it for kicks and grins....there is a reason for the things the health care professionals do....

Um. The kind that actually care about there child. A good parent would drug test there kid if they have reason to believe they are on something. I pray you don't have children or ever plan to.

Smoking in general, restricts the body's ability to heal. Plus, when under anesthesia, you are intubated and they want your lungs clear as well as cutting down the chances of pneumonia ! Hope that helps !

My doctor told me that smoking increases your risk for getting deadly blood clots during surgery.

As a parent of a 16 year old that we are desperately trying to get to stop smoking these posts are very frustrating. We have been testing him and have found that it stays in his system for about 5 days. So we test him about every two to three days. If he tests positive (even the slightest) he loses all privelages, everything until he tests clean. We will continue to do this until he is 18 if it makes him stop now instead of wishing he would have when he is older. Or so later in life he does not have to put someone elses urine in a bottle between his legs to past a test. Or even worse, pay his child $20 bucks for their urine. What are you teaching your child?? I watched my father die of lung cancer, a very painful death. My uncle currently has throat cancer at 54, not much hope he'll live as it has spread. I pray to GOD my child does not see your ways to "beat" these drug tests, but is likely he will...forcing me to have to come research topics like this. That's why they make these tests in the first place is for people who can't tell the truth. It's unfortunate that I have to look up website questions like this --- and I expect this from teenagers, but from adults? AND for those of you going to have surgery, it is not about beating a test, it is about risking your life... you can die under anesthetic, is smoking that important to you? How about this... maybe you should say (for all those kids that are reading your posts that are under age) "Instead of worring how to beat the test, just quit now and make your life a whole lot easier and you can live a lot longer". One more thing, it is my experience that a lie catches up with you eventually - one way or another.---so good luck.

OMG you are such a judgmental, controlling tool. You sound exactly like my crazy, controlling ex-wife! If your experience has been that people lie to you it's because they are trying to save themselves from your incessant, judgmental preaching!

Maybe you should have a cigarette and learn to relax a little! :-D

For the people getting ready to have surgery....any idea why they tell you you can't have the surgery without being a nonsmoker??? Do you know what smoking does to your circulation? And how important good circulation is post operation?? Priorities people!!
