Dear Petty--- I had a cortisone injection in my hip, and gained 25 lbs in the 8 months that followed. I am still carrying the weight, even though the effect of the cortisone have worn off, and you would think it is out of my system by now. After the cortisone wore off, my progesterone level shot up to more than 3 times the normal level. My physician speculated that this was due to an increase in my cortisol level when the cortisone wore off. My progesterone level is gradually coming back down, but I still cannot lose the weight gained after the injection, despite an extremely vigorous weight-lifting and aerobic exercise routine.
Same thing happened to me. Gained weight after the injections and they didn't help after all.
I agree lack of inactivity ,but also from the injections my face is still puffy

I had one injection in my knee and have gained 10lb, look about 7 month pregnant, im normally petite but beginning to look like I'm fat which ive never been, hadn't had a period for 8 months due to been 53 ive now been on a period for over 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to be coming to an end .....also no relief from pain after injection, I'm off to doctors tomorrow ,,,never will I have another injection also extreme migraine ....hope this wears off soon if anyone knows how long this takes to leave your body please do let me know this is getting me down and feel myself getting fatter by the minute ,
Last year, I had a total of 7 steroid injections at L4 - L5. I noticed weight within the first couple of weeks. It feels like a bloating to me. I have read that the cortisone weight settles in around the midsection.i'm 52 and I look like I'm pregnant. I am also saturdaytaking Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain. Boy, does it cause weight gain. My weight has taken over my life. It's depressing, something has to change. I am going to start 'low dose naltrexone' (google it). I hope to be able to get off the Lyrica and lose some weight.
I am shocked at hearing about weight gain. I had both left and right thumb base injected twice, (but one didn't work, so had to have it again! Total of 5) in a period of 5 months and the pain of the injections was excruciating.
I was aware of oral steroid weight gain side effects but the times I checked with my consultant whether there are similar effects with injections - specifically weight gain - and was reassured in no uncertain terms that as it was such a small amount in a localised area, there wouldn't have any of the known side effects of steroids - and I believed him like a fool!
3 months on, I have definitely gained visible pounds, around 8 to be precise yet I had been able to keep my weight steady for around 2 years prior to this. Depression and sweats are also symptoms and I am sitting here feeling utter dread for letting them inject this poison into my body. Worse still, they didn't work so well so I have put myself through all of this for nothing!
I really do hope that the effects wear off soon, would anyone know just how long those shots will take to quit my system?

I also had a cortisone injection in my left shoulder, for a frozen shoulder, which I got from being knocked down by a car. I knew something was wrong when I looked at a photo of myself, I've never looked so fat, my arms and face seem to have ballooned, then realised that I'd been dieting for a few weeks and it hasn't made a bit of difference , normally when I diet I can lose half a stone in a week, I know this I going to be harder because of my age (48) but I don't look as if I've lost anything, in fact it's the opposite. I also know it's going to be harder as I have fibromyalgia which is very painful and stops me from doing any form of vigorous exercise but even so there's no way I should look like this, it's really getting me down and I'm already being treated for depression, putting on this much weight is just making things worse. I am due to have a second injection but reading these comments it's making me really dubious. I am single but would like to have a relationship with someone but it's made me paranoid about my body and looks and at my age time is not on my side. I wish I knew what to do.
I had one injection December 2015. Never again I got bruise's all over my body , potassium levels dropped and weight gain . I've opted for yoga and sports therapy. Trying to get the weight off is hard as I go to the gym up to 6 days a week, apart from starving myself nothing is working . Hope you get better soon.
I also had weight gain, I'm an active person and eat very healthy but the weight not budging what so ever. How are you doing now? Did you ever get back to normal weight? My back in so much discomfort from degenerated disc L5, and SI joints. I'm only 42 and this is so frustrating! I'm trying prolotherapy through acupuncture next week. No idea if it will work..
So what other alternative did you find that would work. I have the same problems.
I just had one on Monday. And I'm up for pounds already and this is only Thursday. I'm also on pretty strong anti-inflammatories I'm not sure if that's contributing or not
I got one shot in December and have been gaining 6 pounds a month obviously. By January i couldn't fit in my jeans. It took me three months to get in them. By the time I saw my doctor I nearly fainted on the scale.
I FEEL YOU... weighed 147, 148, 149 in May... now weigh 153, 154, 155 and my face became very full, which it wasn't before the shot... looks like gained TEN lbs, not 4-5 lbs.
I ran into a friend who I haven't seen since before shot... he said he almost didn't recognize me! AND THE SHOT DIDN'T EVEN HELP WITH THE PAIN! UGH!

I received a shot back in May... I weighed 147, 148, 149 lbs at the time... weighed this amt, like FOREVER. Now, I weigh 152,153,154,155 lbs. So YES, ONE SHOT CAN MAKE ONE GAIN WEIGHT! Also, my face is fuller now... looks like I gained TEN LBS... not 5 - 6 lbs!
ANNND! PAIN STILL THERE!
I'm curious as to HOW LONG this c**p'll stay in my system. Had I known... would NEVER had gotten the shot. :-(

OMG! I wish I had read this b4 got the shot! Was hit by a car last year and the pain and numbness in my hip never went away although I've been going through therapy for months. Last month my Ortho, again, insisted me get the shot. It was at least the 3rd time he said that. I saw him every 4 weeks. Since he sounded so confident and had power I agreed. After a horrible 48hours, 50% of the numbness went away and so far hasn't come back. But the pain did come back a week or two later. And about the same time my weight went up for about 6lbs!! And my period, for the 1st time, was almost 2 weeks late. At the beginning I didn't put all these together as I thought one single shot wouldn't have been this bad. Last week when spoke with a friend about my suddent weight gain, she said the shot must be the reason as it happened to her b4. So I googled and found this post. Sigh! The accident already limited my activities and now another 6lbs!!!
