I have been wracking my brains trying to figure out what has happened to me, then I realized that I had had a steroid injection last week. I have gained at least 2lbs per day. I am very active but look like I'm 8 months pregnant. I cannot fit into ANY of my clothes and I can't fit my wedding ring on. This is so frustrating! It doesn't matter how much I exercise, what or when I eat, the weight just keeps coming
I experienced similar with bilateral SI joint injection. I'm now walking with a cane since and gained 10% body weight. I'm almost 4 months post injection. Didn't work well for me, everyone is different though. Never again for me.
I got a shot on June 20 and it is now July 4 and I have gained almost 5 pounds even after biking 6-10 mikes every evening and drinking diet soda. I refuse to get another shot in my knee and will instead use natural remedies. I take vitamin D3 in large doses per day and that helps the knee. 5 pounds! I'm going to have to starve myself today! I just wonder how long I will continue to see the weight gain
I get steroid shots in my foot and knees. All of the doctors I have talked to about it say that joint steroid injections don't cause weight gain. BS. I am at maximum density. I've gained over 30lbs (I think) in the last year. I need surgery on my foot and knees so I can stop needing these shots for pain relief. I crave sweets and carbs, ravenous, insatiable appetite. My abdomen looks like I'm pregnant. I'm disgusted.
My dr says no you won't gain from one shot Im sorry I know my body better than him I gain weight every time I have injection in knee bout 10 lbs.Sucks doesn't go away I doubled my workout after shot hoping to avoid the gain didn't help.
I am SO glad I found this thread. I have been so depressed lately because i've always been a skinny chick. I'm around 5'8 1/2 and have always weighed around 124-129. I got into a horrible car accident that destroyed my feet and almost ended in an amputation. After my 6th surgery a year after the accident, I got a cortisone shot 3 months later. I was at 135ish pounds at that point which was understandable because I couldn't get around since I was unable to bear weight on my left leg. Well, I kept gaining and gaining until I was up to 160. No food habits or anything changed and working out and trying to eat right this past month and a half hasn't helped. I'm hoping the weight goes down soon! I have horrible stretchmarks all over my hips, down my thighs and fronts and backs of my legs, around my woman area, and even on my boobs and one really weird stretch mark spreading across my ass cheek xD I'm so glad I have answers and I wish like hell I never asked for the shot. I'd choose the pain any day over the horrible body image issues i've been having. My ankle has still hurt me bad anyway so it didn't help much. Please keep me updated on your journey, everyone! I want to really see this light but it doesn't seem like anyone has been on this thread for awhile. I LOVE how on this security type in word it's asking me to do for this reply is the word " BIGGER" xD
It seems that 30 pounds weight gain is what everyone is experiencing, including me!! It all makes sense now. I'm coming up on 8-9 months after the shot and I really hope the weight comes off soon because I can't even really find a size for my body. I used to be a size 7-9 and now I wear like 11-13 but I can never find anything long enough for my legs. 30 pounds really is a big difference and it sucks. I have really fat upper arms now and always look pregnant and my face has a double chin at all times and is way too round. I'm so sorry you are going through this too :'( It's making me so depressed.
I had 2 shots, one in each wrist . Left diagnosed with Dequervains and the other carpal tunnel. I too have morphed into what looks like deflated water ballons of flab on stomach, hips and thighs. I disgust myself when I look in the mirror. I eat a very healthy diet,I am not sedentary but not a huge go-getter when it comes to exercise.I intend to start on my unwanted meat department now that I have purchased a Gazelle. The down side to my story is that the pain is returning in the carpal wrist. I am going to brace it and pray that I can avoid anymore injections. I have heard that 3 is the max and then surgery. If each shot adds 20-25 pounds of unruley fat then I will have blown out knees from hauling it all about.Any suggestions????
I've had 2 cortisone injections into my hip for painful osteoarthritis. I gained 22 pounds in the 4 to 5 months following the first injection, and with no discernible change to diet or exercise. It seemed that every time I stepped on the scale I would be up another pound or so. It was very depressing. I was absolutely baffled as to the cause for the weight gain - and went to my family doctor to find out why - My doctor really had no answer for the weight gain - just suggested standard diet advice. The cortisone shot (which had been ordered by my rheumatologist, not my family doctor) was never discussed as a cause for the weight gain. So I had a 2nd injection about 6 weeks ago - and unfortunately it was AFTER that 2nd injection that I found out that cortisone injections CAN cause weight gain. I have gained only a couple pounds since the 2nd shot - but I have been watching what I eat. However, I'm not losing any weight. I hate the way I look - the weight gain is primarily in my thighs - which are a lot bigger than before and also in my butt and abdomen, which also look big and flabby. Much of my wardrobe no longer fits. At least the first cortisone shot really helped with the hip pain - for about 6 to 8 weeks. The second shot has barely made a dent in the pain. Needless to say, there will NOT be a 3rd shot. I would not have had any shots had I known an extra 20+ pounds were in my near future.
I had an injection a year ago and gain 80 pounds, wake up at night two or three times, and when I wake up I feel very hot. Just had another injection in my knee. I pray I do not gain more weight. I had not pieced together that the injection was the reason for my problems. Thank you for your post. Is there a way to stop the weight gain?
I have had 2 injections in 2 years and my weight has climbed by almost 20 pounds.. even with me dieting and exercising 5-6 times a week for an hour... its uncontrollable.... and experiencing night sweats... I refused a 3rd.. the weight is awfull... The Dr said it's not from the injections... I disagree...
omg it is so good to know im not the only one!!! i share all of your symptoms. with one steroid injection to my knee i gained ten pounds!
I had two cortizone shots (both in the same hand for trigger finger of the index and ring fingers) about five days ago. My weight has remained constant for years - only a couple of pounds difference up or down. I have gained 3-4 pounds in just the past few days since having the injections and strongly suspect that the cortizone is the reason for the sudden and inexplicable weight gain, despite continuing to remain active and actually eating less.
I got a cortisone shot for my shoulder due to a car accident October 2nd and it's the 18th now and I've gained almost 10 lbs. I haven't changed anything in my activity or diet. The 3 days following my shot was horrible. My head hurt, I vomited blood, my entire back hurt, I was bloated (still am). I will never get another one. Plus my dr didn't warn me about any side effects
I get two shots in my knees every 90 days and I’ve lost 75 lbs. in the last year. The weight loss is because I joined weight watchers.
