Hi I’m not sure if you’re still on the board and I know this is an old post I was just wondering if you ever had your surgery for Cushing’s syndrome. I have had a series of eight Cortizone shots in four months time and have gained 40 pounds I also have buffalo hump now. Really wish I had never taken the first shot even though I was in pain from a severe case of plantar fasciitis. I was just wondering how it all turned out for you.

I also had the epidural steroid injections in my back and I gained 40lbs that year. And the doctors told me I could gain 10 ponds. I wore a size 3 jeans before the injections and went up to a 12.

Has anyone ever gotten back to normal from this? I'm at 11 months since my cortisone injection in my ankle and I'm still experiencing the horrible swelling and weight gain of the body. I'm still at 160 and haven't budged. I was 135 before this shot. I used to wear size 9 jeans and I'm now at a size 14. My periods are still not back to normal either. I have a horrible fear that my body will never go back to normal. I had tried working out and eating clean for 4 months straight with no results except I made the stretch marks I got after the shot so much worse. They stretch almost down to my knees all over the tops of my legs and on my hips and it's horrible. I also have weird lumpy skin on my rib cage and my upper arms are huge and lumpy looking too. I'm so pissed I ever got this shot... If I would've known the hell it'd put me through :( My body has been through so much these last few years. I was in a nearly fatal car accident and crushed both feet and after 6 surgeries and lots of patience I was able to walk again but made the mistake of getting a cortisone injection in my "good" ankle. I just can't believe it's added this much more misery in my life after what I already had to go through. I would love to know if any of you actually went back to normal. It would make me worry so much less if you did. Thank you!

We must be the same person :'( I'm at the weird 11-14 and I can't find anything long enough for my legs either! 14s make my pregnant looking belly look even worse and goodness it's hell. I'm now at 11 months and still no change. I've been so depressed about it. Every single day I apologize to my boyfriend for being a fatass with hideous stretch marks all over. He tells me I'm beautiful and to stop saying those things about myself, but I can't help it. This whole experience has been awful. I just hope my body will be normal again. I miss being skinny. In pictures my arms seriously look as wide as my head and it's so depressing.

Wow, after further investigation we really are the same person because I posted that comment and totally forgot

I think they try and get you to do what they want. They don't like hearing about side effects. They brush you off. If they know your going to have side effects, that will upset you, such as weight gain, they don't warn you. If it might case acid reflex, insomnia. Whatever the case might be. If you don't look it up, you won't find out until it's too late. Even then they will push you. Or say it's rare. Literally argue with you. I hate it.stresses me out. I do my homework. Refuse if I want. Makes them mad. I don't care. It's my body. Mine.

I've had a lot of injections. Luckily I didn't gain weight. But, I was 175 lbs. At one point. I had ost the weight before the shots. I did it walking. I added time out walking over several months. I walk as fast as I can. It got me down to 113 lbs. I do it every day. It gets easier as you watch the pounds fall off. I make myself go even if I don't feel like it. I'm afraid one day off will lead to a bunch. For me, I have to burn more calories than I eat. So, to avoid walking half the day.. no fast food, Pizza, pasta, low carbs. No fried food. No sugar. Sounds hard, but you get used to it. I had a foot surgery recently, I weigh myself every day. I am careful about my calorie count. Cause I know I can't do my walk yet it's been seven weeks. Still at 113. It's hard but I'm determined. The nurse, I clash with, is trying to force me to take a steroid shot in my foot. I'm not. I never gained weight before. But always a first time. By the way, AVOID the uninflamatory mobic. It causes rapid weight gain. No joke. I took just one, went from 113 to 117 overnight. They cause a lot of bloating to. And nausea. You'll blow up. Try walking if you can. I think it's the easiest way. Beats awful sit ups. I meet nice people. And it's theaputic. Good luck. Hang in there

After a year and almost 2 months, the weight is finally coming off! Here is my tip to everyone. First off, I am not where I want to be yet and was going to save posting another comment until I was back at my goal weight. I just want to share with you guys what I think happened so that maybe some of you can avoid gaining even more weight like I did. When I realized I was getting bigger, I jumped into hardcore workouts and would ride my exercise bike for 45 minutes to an hour. Folks, I was only getting bigger. I was eating pretty clean (just grilled chicken, eggs, carrots, stuff like that) and saw no results either. I was also dealing with figuring out what I was allergic to food wise so I wasn't eating a broad range of foods. I believe trying so hard to lose the weight by working out so much kept my cortisol levels high and I wasn't giving it the chance to lower back down to normal. I recently went to a specialist to get tested for Cushings and my cortisol levels were normal. I was so relieved and took that as my cue to start working out again. So far it's been almost a month of working out and I'm not getting bigger and I'm losing some weight! :) I am eating very healthy now too (actually healthy! Brown rice, oatmeal, broccoli, and cauliflower are main staples in my diet). I'm making a lifestyle change. I'm also doing Yoga and it's helping immensely! I was 130 pounds before the shot. The shot had me up to 160 within a few months. Right now I'm at around 153. I feel like the fatty tissue that gathered on my upper arms, thighs, and stomach will be super hard to get rid of, but I'm certain that if I keep up on my workouts and yoga and my new way of eating, it will all be gone. I will never ever get another shot again, but I do believe that all of us who have had one or more and keep working out to try to lose the weight will only be getting bigger and will keep it in your system longer because you'll just pump the cortisol up again if that makes sense. I had worked out nonstop for 4 months straight and took a long hiatus because I realized working out was only making it worse and giving me more stretchmarks! Wait a year and a month after your last shot and then start working out to lose the weight you gained. Make sure to eat healthy too and keep carbs at bay. My period was so off this whole year and is finally back on track and coming every 3 weeks again. The abnormal bleeding has also stopped. It sucks that you have to wait so long to see a difference in your body, but please take my advice folks. Be patient. Don't overdo it. Once it's fully out of your system(took me a year) you can start your workouts. I hope this helps! I'll keep everyone updated forsure because it sucks not having answers and most of the stuff I had read on these threads gave me absolutely no hope.

How's your weight loss going? We got our injections around the same time and so far I've only lost two pounds and I EAT BASICALLY NOTHING. Also, most of my hair fell out, which sucks :/

I've lost 5 more pounds since my last comment 13 days ago :) Barely eating anything sadly makes things worse when high corisol is an issue :( You definitely have to eat 3 times a day, but just make sure the portions aren't huge and that the food is healthy. :) I'm so sorry most of your hair fell out :( I definitely had some hair loss as well.

My advice to you to keep you from gaining a c**p ton of weight...
Don't do intense exercising (honestly I'd barely do any exercising until the year is up)
Don't eat huge portions. Definitely don't starve yourself either though because that also makes the weight go up.
Eat low carb and healthy foods.
Start using stretch mark oil just in case the weight gain happens regardless because I got severe stretchmarks from gaining 30 pounds within a matter of months.
When the year mark hits, start your intense workouts.
It sucks how long of a process this is, and thankfully it doesn't happen to everyone so you might actually be lucky and not have this issue at all. Unfortunately that was not the case for me :( I'm just so glad I did my research, found some things out on my own, and am finally losing the weight.
