I have been suffering the past year with foot, knee and now hip pain that never seems to leave. I had the Mirena placed last April and things have gone down hill. I have seen my regular doctor as well as a Rheumatologitst and no one can tell me why I have constant pain in my right hip and at times now my left hip too. I actually lost a significant a amount of hair about 9 months ago and this was blamed on my hypothyroidism. My blood work all seem pretty good with the exception of my C-Reactive Protein, it continues to rise with no other indicators why. So I have tried Celebrex and it did not relieve the pain after 30 days. Next drug was Cymbalta which I could not even function on and now they are giving me Lyrica. I find it hard to be taking medications for something that has not been diagnosed. I have had to take steriods twice in the past year for sinus infections and it's amazing how great I feel when I am on them. I am 50 years young in good health and feeling like I am aging at a rapid rate with zero explanation. Plan on taking out the Mirena next.

I have the Mirena coil and have had it for about 3 years now, my first one for itself dislodged and had to go and get it removed...but this new one is giving me pain in my left side in my back! I also have a tilted uterus? Anyone know what this could be?

I hade the same experience when I got it put in. I have a slightly tilted uterus and I truly believe that may be the cause of my severe abdominal pain and back pain. I know several people that loved mirena and it worked great for them. They didn't even have a period so I do feel like any kind of uterus issue could be the cause for the pain and excessive bleeding. I decided to try mirena because I cant take birth control pills (they make my hormones go insane) and I always gain a lot of weight. After having the mirena in for almost a year, trying to give it a shot, I couldn't do it any longer. I was in agony! I started using nuva ring right after and it has been the best thing I have ever done! I have no side effects whatsoever and I lost weight while I was on it. Of course everyone's body is different and so it may not work for everyone. It's been great for me though! Good luck! I do encourage you to try the nuvaring if mirena and birth control pills do not work for you! :)

May i ask if your symptoms included foggy braun, anxiety? I think my mirena uid is making me ill and have now been through every test possible. Even got chest pains thought it was heart attack! I am two years over due to take mirena out, only the last year and half have i been sick and no one can tell me why. I eventually decided to get it taken out

Same thing happened with me! So glad I found this thread when I googled back pain and rib pain from Mirena. My lower left back was in so much pain that I couldn't pick up my kids or bend over at all. I went to physical therapy, chiropractor, yoga, acupuncture and nothing was giving me more than an hour or so of relief. I realized all this pain started during my first period I've had since getting Mirena 9 months earlier. That plus the severe cramps made me suspicious that the mirena was the cause. I got it out on a Wednesday, cramping was gone on Thursday and my back was completely better a few days later. I still can't believe it. I think I will try the Nuva Ring next.

Did you have your IUD for pregnancy prevention or heavy menstrual bleeding? I have been having constant left back pain to the point some times I cannot walk on my own. I have tried everything muscle related as relief and nothing helps. I hate not being able to leave the house during my cycle due to over bleeding but this pain is starting not to be worth it and I cannot get in to OB until end of month.

I had Mirena inserted, and at first I had no problems. Sure, the initial pain of insertion, but about 2 months after insertion I started having intense lower back pain. I'm a nurse and frequently end my 12 hour shifts with back pain, so I chalked it up to heavy patients. Within 6 months of insertion, I was having such severe lower back pain, I had to sit down to put my socks and shoes on. As a healthy, active 25 year old, I was not accepting the pain any longer. When I went to get the Mirena removed, my doctor said she's never heard of anything like that, but was in agreement with me on the removal. A few days after Mirena was taken out, my back pain almost completely disappeared. A year later, I'm back to normal. Never using an IUD again.

Yes I’m laying here as I finished reading your blog regretting not only having the copper iud for about five or six years to then get it out and put a Mirena and now experiencing pain on my left side lower back and leg also my uterus feels like I need to push something out. Hard to describe but I have an appointment to get this removed too!
