Have you been checked for endometriosis? They have to do a laparoscopy to diagnose. It has an average of 10 years diagnosis delay, but has many symptoms similar to what you're describing.

Hello. I know this thread is quite old but I was trying to find others in my situation so I still wanted to post. I've had the mirena almost five years. After the second year I started have VERY severe pain on my right side under my ribcage. The only thing anyone found was my gallbladder wasn't functioning. Had it removed 2013. My pain remained the same. It is so bad I sit with a heating pad everyday all day at my office. After watching a video (a makeup vlogger of all things!) on youtube she mentioned all the problems she had as a result of her iud. It started to raise red flags. Ive also had horrible acne since the insertion. Mirena is a great means a birth control but I'm leaning towards it being the cause of my dibilitating daily pain. Calling my OB/GYN first thing tomorrow.

I had the exact same experience. This is shocking. I toughed mine out for 5 years, it just seemed the most effective birth control. Iv just switched to the nuvaring, and its too soon to tell really, but I haven't had a mood swing yet. The pain in my left side still hits me when I cough, and I hope there's not scaring or such... I was even diagnosed as bipolar, and I'm beginning to think it was all mirena's fault... Hope my experience helps someone out x/

I'm glad I'm not going crazy! I had Mirena put in November 2014. At first everything seemed to be going fine but then I gradually started to get back pain. I thought nothing of it at first until about 2 months ago. That's when the pain started to get unbearable. I have severe pain in my lower back and it shoots down my legs. I dread going to bed as I can no longer sleep properly. As soon as I lay down, the pain is excrutiating! When I wake up in the morning, it's a process just to get out of bed! I have been going to massage therapy and chiro with no relief. I think after reading up a bit that I need to get this thing removed! I want my life back!

I have the same pain where it feels like severe period cramps, except I don't even get a period. I have had a dermoid cyst removed recently and had numerous ultra sounds where my IUD shows it is in the correct placement. All of my doctors say it is likely irritable bowel syndrome. I just think it's weird that it has started after I had the mirena placed 1 1/2 years ago.

I had my first iud for 5 years I never had any issues or side effects. That was until I got it replaced since fda only approves it for 5. The minute I got it replaced I almost blacked out from dizzy spell. Within months my face broke out in acne, my periods came back and heavier. But I figured ok give my body time to adjust because they were typical side effects you read everywhere. Now a year later back pain on both sides where my kidneys are, pelvic pains mostly on my left side. Went to the dr they ran test everything came back normal, iud is in the right place hasn't shifted. The only problem they found was the strings were cut to short. So they don't even know if that's what causing all the effects. But the pain is intense I feel very sleepy, no energy, weight gain. I finally decided to get it removed hopefully that will solve the issues. Keep you updated.

I've had Mirena for less than a year and it has been a very unfortunate experience. Aside from the 3 month long period when I first got it in, I've since experienced more severe episodes of depression and anxiety. I've been exceptionally bloated, constipation and unable to loose weight despite eating healthy and working out. Last month I had my first period in months and it was the worst thing I've experienced next to getting Mirena inserted. The flow was super heavy and my cramps were almost intolerable (my periods have always been heavy and painful, but this was way worse). I would have severe pain in my left ovary and a little on the right, in waves but a general discomfort constantly. The period ended almost 3 weeks ago now and I'm still experiencing the pain and discomfort (though less extreme). I've gone to my doctor who has done a pelvic exam and did an ultra sound and found nothing wrong and my IUD remaining in proper place. After reading other blogs from women who have had Mirena and similar experiences, in addition to articles written by doctors who are against the use of IUD's, I'm fully convinced the root of my problems is the IUD. I've made an appointment to have it removed next week. Enough is enough. I don't think IUDs are safe or a good idea, especially Mirena.

I am experiencing the same symptoms at this very moment. This has been going on for three years. I had back pain when I was pregnant so I assumed the pregnancy messed with my back. I have been to the Dr time and time again. But they can not find anything. Did you find out Any thing yet?

Do you have an IUD? If so have it removed. This has made a drastic difference for many of us.

I have a tilted pelvis also. I had the iud inserted oct 2015. I went to check placement 2 months later, strings were not felt. I had 2 pelvic/abdominal ultrasounds. They could not find the iud. I asked the RN to have the dr write an order for an X-ray and she argued with me that I need to accept the fact that it just fell out. So dumb! I complained to the PA and she and the dr agreed to order the X-ray. The dr called me back last night with X-ray results and it turns out the iud moved to my upper left pelvic. I'm going to undergo laparoscopy under general anesthesia next week. The dr said she has to move my bowel to get to it and remove any adhesions if necessary. So scary! Even when I went to get my X-ray, the X-ray tech told me a lot of people come in for missing IUDs .

I am so happy to hear this issue was taken to the the next level. Hopefully you got relief from the devices removal!? I went through an IUD trama very similar to you though my strings were in place. But like you it took persistent pushing to even convince my doctors it was the IUD causing my pain. It took much longer than it should of to finally get to the bottom. Turns out mine had punctured through the lining of my uterus, making my endometriosis worse and subsequently causing growth in new places. If I'd not demanded the thing be taken out I too would of had a dislodged IUD. When I heard them use the term "lost" I realized the absurdity of the situation. Because I instantly knew "lost" meant my doctor was deflecting responsibility either to the manufacturer or to me and my tilted (also like you) uterus. I do hope all of our experiences will be useful to others. This whole situation taught me how crucial my role is with doctors. It's my participation and education that'll determine the level of care I receive just as it's up to me to be proactive in my healthy lifestyle.

I am going tomorrow to remove mine. Same exact thing happened to me and this pain in awful. Causing me mood swings and irritability as well. Can't wait to remove it.
