I have had the Mirena since April 2012. It was very painful on insertion, I almost fainted. Seemed okay at first but I have had the same symptoms found in this post. I have intermittent, nagging abdominal pain and left hip pain. At first it started out like a numbness or weakness in my left leg along with a heaviness you would get with a menstrual period. I haven't had a period in months, but the pain sometimes feels like I am. The abdominal pain seems to travel with no specific pattern. It was awful in October and I went to the doctor. The blood tests were normal so we decided to wait for until I could get in with the GI doctor. The only thing that made it feel better was rest and a heating pad. I think I have bought more Gas-x in the last few months than anyone should in their whole lifetime. Not sure if it helped, but I took it anyway. I had an ultrasound in November and they said the Mirena is fine. Today, the pain is above my belly button, but is usually lower and to the left side. I have an appointment with a GI doctor in a week. If he doesn't find anything, I am making an appointment to have this nightmare removed. I haven't been the same since October.

I was diagnosed with endometriosis and do not have any abnormalities with my uterus. I've wanted this iud out but since I got put through menopause, given hormonal replacement..and got a dvt blood clot in my leg, I kind of had no choice since my doc wouldn't put me back on continuous birth control which helped best managing pain. I still have the iud in..wondering if your body expelled it before? Mine did..and I hope you feel better. I know I dont! Please let me know if you were told to take it out or told anything regarding this greathtakung pain! There is also no point of origin with this pain..I can't really pin point where it is comming from. It hurts to lay on my left side and its like another heart under my diaphragm...what about you? Best of luck..Alex

I have had it removed for about a month now and it seems like a miracle! I still had some paint and symptoms (but milder) for about a week afterwards. But is have felt SOOOO much better after that! Seriously think about having it removed if all your tests keep coming back "normal". I wonder if it had somehow trapped some sort of bacteria or infection inside me. My Gyno of course told me it could not be the Mirena. But I am pretty positive now that it was.

I had mine put in 12 months ago. The pain in my leg started very shortly after that (within 48 hours) . The pain then progressed to my hip and lower back. All on one side. I Had the blood works done 1 week ago testing for arthritis blah blah, all negative. I then said to my GP that I would like the mirena out because all the problems I was having started when it went in. She did it there and then in the surgery, took seconds to remove. Last night was the first night I had NO LEG PAIN! Yahoo!!

I'm glad to read that I am not the only one with sudden left side pains shortly after receiving the Mirena. I have had it for over a year and started with pain on my left side within a few months. Back pain, under rib pain, lower pelvic pain.. all on the left side. Had an ultrasound and the IUD is in the right place. Kidney ultrasound showed some fullness. Saw a gastroenterologist today who doesnt think its a GI issue. Now being referred to a urologist for a CTscan. Sadly, I may have to just remove the Mirena. It was helping with the endometriosis pain but I'm not sure the trade off is worth it. More doctors, more test...

Hi alex, my name is Tracy. I've had my mirena changed twice in the last twelve years. but for the last two years have had extreme back pain on the left side. I was even bed ridden two years ago and then again last year due to very bad back spasms. i've gone to see my doctor several times since then, i quit counting, and I always get the same answer, "it's your core muscles they are too week and in return put pain in your back". But you see all the pain is located in my left side of my back and left pelvis. it is none stop pain, i can barely put my shoes on, put on my clothing with out wincing. i recently went again to see my doctor to have it removed and again he said that would be a bad decision considering my endometriosis would indefinately come back for a third time. I've had one operation the first time I got it and then had the IUD put in and its been twelve years of constant pain, plus i've put on 40 lbs of weight I can't loose. I was 145lbs before the mirena and in very good shape now i can't even bend down and feel like i am 90 years old.

I agree completely with Elaine. I went through pain and teating for months - as i was also having blood in my urine along with the other symptome of pain, bloating cramping etc. I had it removed (though my OBGYN did not think it could be contributing to my symptoms) and within 2 weeks i was 99% better!. I say get it out.

I am so glad I found these posts. I thought I was going crazy or dying. I agree with the posts that described the pain as hard to pinpoint location. I did not even know what doctor to call. I know now!!! It does make you feel like you have aged ten years in one.

I have had my Mirena for almost two years now and I have had problems off and on. I have never really trusted it but was tying to hold out because my doctor won't tie my tubes until I am 35. Well it's time! Now I have been having cramping and it has been hurting during sex. I have never had that! I want this thing out of me! I just scheduled my consult. You would think they would make this a priority after I said I've had cramps for the past two weeks and I never get cramps. But I will have to hold out another couple of weeks. Ugh!
