It will be the best thing you ever did. I know some women who have really good luck with the IUD but I didn't. I just wish I had of listen to my body sooner. Still trying to figure out a few things and having some health issues. Not going to blame it all on the mirena but sure is a concidence everything that has happen to me started when I got the mirena. I wish you the best!!

I have just recently got my IUD Mirena removed. I had it for 2 yrs now and about six months into first having it inserted I started having back problems and left and right pelvic pains (close to where leg joins). I thought it normal and went on but after dealing with it for six months, I decided to go to the doctor. They couldn't find anything and did ultrasounds, check ups and tested me for Pelvis Inflammatory Disease-nope.

Long story short, after several multiple doctor visits and xrays, I went to a chiropractor and found out my pelvis was slightly rotated and tilting causing pain in my hips and back and caused a herniated disc (probably from childbirth). He advised me because of my pelvic issues to go get the IUD possibly removed. First visit the doctor couldn't find the cord (probably because of the tilt) and so they had to do another ultrasound and said they found it. This whole time my pains were predominately in my left ovary area that felt full and achy and tender to touch often but would sometimes be felt in the left side as well.

I had to get it removed under sedation because it was causing pain for her trying to find it and basically now it is achy  but WAY better from the removal but I believe the Mirena was irritating me with my pelvis being rotated and it could have been causing cysts. The cysts definately are painful in those areas and feels like organs are hurting.

If you experience it, I think you should forgo the removal and just deal with a better less painful form of birthcontrol.

I had the same side effects the lower left side. Come to find out it was my bladder causing all that pain it is called IC Interstitial Cystitis. So talk to your doctor about that instead of you going through all that testing and they are finding nothing wrong. Tell them to check your bladder. Also, I just started about a week ago with the abdominal pain and lower back pain I have a call into my dr on that one b/c i could barely walk today. But been feeling very nausea, mood swings that I am scaring myself. My poor husband doesnt even want to be around me. So i will post again when i find out what else is going on.

I have had my mirena for almost 5 years now, and i am unsure if it is what has been the cause of my nausea, severe stomach bloating, pain that radiats on my left side front and back. I have to continually go to the restroom and it never seems like I am voiding all the way, not only the inability to void all the way, I have to be close to the bathroom because of an immediate to have to go. I also haI have severe burning and discharge affecting my vagina...I am also having fever sweats and cold chills. I do not know what to do, I have been to the hospital multiple times for all my symptoms and they can never find anything. Also to boot with everything  i am experiencing I am fearful to sneeze or cough to hard because I will urinate on myself. Please someone help me with some insight, i do not know what to do, or know what is wrong with me. I cant work cause I am always sick and severly depressed. I am beside myself. Thank you in advance!

I got Mirena placed after my 3rd baby back in June. In the last 8 weeks I've started having low back pain that has progressively gotten worse. Last week it started again with bleeding. The pain was so bad I would almost cry just rolling over in bed. I had to have my husband get the baby in the night so I could feed him because I couldn't lift him out of his crib. This morning I can even walk down the stairs without feeling like my legs are going to give out. I have called my GYN's office twice and still waiting for someone to call me back so I can just get this thing out. I know that it is from the Mirena because I haven't done anything to injure my back. Can anyone tell me if there pain started with bleeding or was it all the time? I would always cramp with my period but this is bad!

I had similar symptoms when I had mine placed June 9th, 2011 after my 2nd baby and I bled for 2 weeks straight after it was placed and from then on out I had cramping and pain with or without a period sometimes so bad that I would double over and not even darvocet would touch the pain . I also could not have intercourse without crying due to the severe pain I experienced during and afterwards I would experience bleeding. I stopped having periods as of January however I still experience the pain and now I think I am having major mood swings with some depression and anxiety. I have gotten to the point for the last 6 months I can not stand to be around anyone including my kids and husband and all I want to do is sleep during the day its like I can't get enough but yet at night time I can't sleep and I have also been experiencing more and more frequent anxiety attacks. I have also been noticing I am picking arguments with everyone I am around over petty things and I never used to be that way. I have also been experiencing UTI infections (which I rarely had before the IUD) and I have also experienced a yeast infection (which I have never had until now) but I was told neither were caused by the IUD. I still experience lower back and pelvic pain and the pain is mainly on the left side however I do get it on my right every once in a while. I still have it in but after reading this forum I will be calling my OB-GYN to set up an appointment to get things checked out and possibly get this thing removed

I had my IUD inserted June 22 2011. 3 months after it was inserted I started experiencing the exact same pain! It got to the point where I was almost blacking out. I went to my doc and all they said was for me to take Tylenol or ibuprofen. Along with this pain I had some newer side effects come up. Within the past 2 months I was having blurred division, and really really bad dandruff ( I've been using head and shoulders and still not clearing it up!) Also since I had it inserted I have not had a menstrual cycle. After dealing with all these side effects I finally got the mirena removed yesterday (11/27/12) the side effects were getting to be way too much, and my doc just kept telling me to take Tylenol or ibuprofen. As far as the blurred vision they said there was no way it was a side effect, but I've talked to several girls who have had the same problem. I still have yet to bleed since having it removed. I will never ever ever use the IUD again. The side effects are not worth it.

I had Mirena inserted 4 weeks ago.  I have not stopped bleeding since the insertion.  I went to the ER after the first week b/c I was using up to 10-12 super plus tampons/day.  I have had severe cramping and lower back pain everyday.  The ribs on my left side are extremely tender to the touch and painful.  I was getting into my car yesterday and I had a pain so severe in my lower back that I nearly blacked out.  It mainly feels like I have menstrual cramps all the time.  I will often get this shooting pain that starts right below my belly button and shoots downward. My OB/GYN decided to insert the IUD b/c I have had debilitating headaches for the past 3 years and she thought it was due to my Nuvaring.  Unfortunately, my headaches have only become worse since Mirena.  I am thinking it is time to have it removed...?

I had the Mirena IUD placed about 2-3 months after my son was born. It was great for the first few weeks. I had the usual bleeding/spotting. After about 4 weeks I started noticing a "clinching" pain in my low back. After the pain started I noticed bleeding. I didn't think much of it but each month the pain worsened. Now, it got so back at 6 months post baby I asked to have it removed. I could not even lift my baby out of his crib without feeling like my strength was just going to give out. I couldn't walk down the stairs without feeling like my legs were going to give as well. My husband would have to get him in the night for me to feed him because I would almost cry just having to roll over in bed. I have a VERY high pain tolerance and it was just getting worse by the day. I called my midwife and asked for it to be removed. They got me in last week and I got it out. I felt like there was "pressure" relieved when it was removed, but of course the pain did not immediately go away. Now, I am a week out and feeling so much better. I can bend, lift, etc.... with no problems. There was no injury to my back it was only the IUD and my body screaming at me to get it out. I wish it had worked. Would have been so easy. Just not for me I guess. Hope this helps. I did look at the FDA site to check this out but it was not listed accept for "back pain" with no descriptions. Hope this helps someone else.

I had the Mirena IUD put in on 12-23-2011 and 2 1/2 weeks later I had the most SEVERE pain on my lower left side and directly behind my lower back. It felt like someone stabbing me! I had never felt anything like it before - not even childbirth - which I had an emergency c-section. It lasted about 3 - 4 hrs and nothing helped , not even pain medication. I was told it was a cyst that burst - but there was no evidence of that. Since then I have had it happen 3-4 times again the most recent on 12-1-2012. I have to wonder if it is caused by the IUD? I never had an issue with this in my history. The pain was right by left hip bone and radiated down my left leg to my knee, also across my lower left back. The next day I was really sore as if I had done something to pull my  muscles. I am thinking about removing it . Anyone else being told it's a cyst bursting without any history of that happening?
