I have pain in my left side near my uterus that radiates to my lower back. My uterus is tilted back so when I first got the Mirena I couldn't feel the strings, now they are long. I have pain during sex and bleeding after. My doctor says that the Mirena is still in place but my body says something is wrong. Hopefully there is someone out there who can help.

Have it removed, honestly. I know it's a big investment and that you don't want to flush that money down the toilet for no reason but you will definitely feel better. The doc I had remove mine (in emerg while I was out of town) told me it was fine but I insisted he remove it anyway. i felt better immediately. It was astounding. When I talked to my GP about it later she said she wished she could have done an ultra sound- basically she didn't agree that the Mirena was the problem. She is a fantastic doctor but our medical professionals just aren't getting the information about how negatively the Mirena can affect a woman's body.

Ladies, please learn about endometriosis. I started having pain 4 months after getting the Mirena, but it was simply coincidental. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women and often takes 10 years to diagnose -- many care providers simply aren't educated about it. Symptoms often include pelvic pain, either constantly, or around your cycle. It's a nasty disease, but once diagnosed you can start focusing on treatment and finding a true specialist. Hysterectomy, pregnancy, and ablation are NOT cures, though there are many professionals who still believe they are.

Hi, and wow!! I have to tell you this is my 2nd round w the Mirena so I'm going on my 7th year using this form. I originally Google left ovary pain with Mirena and to my surprise like you I am also having lower back (hip) problems I mean chronic pain with what I call bad episodes that I have been living with from what I recall to my doctor about 5 years now. All the doctors I have went to have no answer for the pain besides everything from scoliosis, arthritis, degeneration disc, a car accident I keep telling them I've never been in. I finally got so sick of it I went to an ortho doctor who has scheduled and MRI 2/16/16 because xray s show nothing. After this MRI if I do not have a clear answer I think I should consider the Mirena being the culprit. I too as a matter of fact new years day had a terrible terrible episode I couldn't walk, I couldn't get my panties or socks on myself. And I literally broke down, accepting that I have been defeated and this is now going to be something in my life I must accept and live with. It lasted a few weeks I'm still what I call all "wound" up but I am able to dress again myself. The thing is I know as I have for 5 years now it's only a matter of time!! Since having it removed have you found relief with the back pain? And how immediate did it go away?

Wow! I am very curious to hear if you will feel relief from having it out. Definitely let us know if you opt to have it removed. Mine was EXCRUCIATING. It showed up within three months of having the Mirena placed. I don't know if the short time I had it in affected how quickly I felt relief or not. I was having back spasms every four or five steps, would have to stop and let them pass, as soon as I had it removed they stopped. I was stiff from the muscles contracting so much but literally not one more spasm after it was out. I was able to go skiing the next day and was right as rain two days later.

I definitely agree that endo could be a big issue for lots of women, my friend had it and it was horrible, I'm sorry you have to deal with it. Definitely something to look into when dealing with this type of pain. Hopefully most of these women will have pain due to mirena and not something worse. I was so grateful that mine was so easily remedied.

Wow did you go see your doctor? I am guessing he/she told you none of your symptoms are Mirena related- MANY doctors don't recognize it's affects. My doctor didn't, and still doesn't, think my Mirena caused my back spasms. But when it was in they happened and when it was out they stopped. If you're sure there aren't any other causes I would certainly entertain having it removed.

Did the pain go away when you got it out? I have had severe pain for the past week, and after doing testing and a cat scan they could not find anything. The did however notice my mirena looks like it is attached to the uterus on one side. I would never have thought it could cause so much pain in the left side! Thought it was a kidney infection or stone at first!

My pain went away immediately after removal. Literally. Although I was having back pain and spasms so it could be different.

I have had severe pain on my left side for a week straight now. It started in my lower rib cage, radiating through to the front, back and side, and then went down into mid abdomen on the left side. It is making my shoulder and leg numb with a pins and needle feeling. I have been treated for a kidney infection and stones, and then got sent up for a cat scan where they found nothing- except that my mirena looked like it had possibly attached or perforated my uterus on the right side and it was swollen....could this pain be caused by the mirena?! Did anyone have this type of pain because of it??

I had my 2nd Mirena removed on 7/2/15 and not replaced because of all the issues I have had in 10 years from it. I'm currently on the floor laying down unable to sit or stand. I had back problems on and off with it but not until 7/4, 2 days after removal, did I go 8 days without sitting or walking. I've used 4 years of sick time up within the last several months. After an X-ray I was sent to physical therapy by my general practitioner thinking it was muscle spasms and possible slight bulging disk. After not being able to walk within those 8 days I was finally sent for an MRI. I'm 38, and have spinal stenosis and have gone through 6 anti inflammatories, 3 epidural injections, more physical therapy and have done nothing but gotten worse. They laugh at me when I mention the Mirena saying there is no way this was caused by it.

I'm having mine removed in Aug 2016 had it placed Oct 2015. I have experienced all of the symptoms women described on here. I had an emergency c section after 16 hour of regular labor and that pain was nothing compared to the pain being caused by the mirena. Will give an update in Aug too
