i'm curently going through withdrawl from Trams and called my doc. he had the receptionist call me back to tell me to either go to the ER or wait to see him tomorrow. i feel so sick and don't know if i can hold on until tomorrow to see my doc.
if i go the hospital, is there any way they can lock me up against my will? i'm 39 years old by the way. i don't have a history of drug abuse, though i do take a couple extra pills here and there when need be, which my doctor is aware of. i have told him and been honest with him when i've done so.
but i do have a history of going to the ER a couple times a year for the condition i have that caused me to have my doc presribe me the Trams in the first place. and usually when i go to the ER, they treat me as someone who is there to get drugs for kicks, rather than to manage my pain.
i'd go to the hosital if i knew 100% that they would not lock me up, but am afraid and need to know if i go, before i go, what the chances of them locking me against my will might be?
thanks

Hi:
It would be easy to prove that your Tram is prescribed, so suspicion about that should not be a problem. In addition, his office can verify that he told you to come in. I don't believe they can hold you "against your will" unless you are a danger to yourself or others and that would be a 5150. Otherwise, unless you are in possession of an unprescribed, illegal substance you should be fine. What you can't afford to do is wait around with symptoms that your doctor obviously feels are serious. He told you to go in, so you should. Go into a facility that he is associated with. You can also go to a place that is new to you, but that doesn't sound like the best choice. Good luck...I hope you will reach your positive goal very soon.

Some states can hold you against your will, if they find you to be a danger to yourself or others. In Indiana it is 48-72hrs then they have to release you.
Laws are different in every state so it may be wise to check the laws of the state you live in.

Hi Med-head:
How has your withdrawal experience been since your post? Have you been able to stick with it? If so, congratulations ! If not, don't give up. Stick with it. Find a support system to rally around you. Did you end up going to ER. Where did you decide to go (familiar or unfamiliar place)? Did you have any legal problems when you went? I'd like to hear an update on your situation and your condition. I hope that you are doing well. Please let me know.
