My doctor has not been very helpful with my sleep problems. I'm 48. I had him test my hormone levels (my idea) and progesterone and testosterone were low. Dale Bredesen's "The End Of Alzheimer's" is great for advice on hormone. Average hormone levels are not necessarily optimal levels. Getting on replacement therapy helped a great deal. I live in a place were marijuana is legal. I started low level THC at night before bed. That helped me get off 10mg time release melatonin, HTP5, and GABA. My sleep still goes down the drain on a menstrual cycle. I would suggest getting your hormones checked, but then cycling what you take to sleep so you don't develop too much of a tolerance to any one thing. Like Ambien would be good during periods time, but try to use something else on other days. The days when you do use Ambien will be better.
