My two oldest children both had their tonsils out at about age 4. My daughter ended up having hers done again because they did grow back. They are called "tags" when this happens. My husbands mother had hers done three times for regrowth. In the last 6 months both childen have had step 3 times. This last time the doc said that my son's "tonsils" looked pretty swollen! His have grown back also. The ent says out of 10,000 + surgeries he's done he's only seen the regrowth about 10 times. Really thinking I will hold off with the youngest and try to avoid the surgery since it doesn't seem to be the cure for my children.

Dogs don't get Strep in their throats. . . they get it rectally. Though it is possible for the dog to lick their bottoms and then lick you.

Humans can also get rectal strep, just for the record.

I am 47 years old; I had my tonsils out when I turned 30.  I was at a cheerleading competition for my daughter and was sitting on bleachers with other parents and spectators.  I had a bottle of water beside me which I occassionally drank from.  I picked my bottle up to take a sip of water and I could tell from the taste on the opening of the water bottle that someone around me drank from it.  I did not think I could get strep throat; over the next 24hours I developed the worse case of strep throat I ever had.  While it is uncommon to develop strep throat after tonsillectomy, it is not unheard of, even after 17 years after a post-tonsillectomy.

I am also a school nurse.  Recently a student had her tonsils removed over Easter.  She presented to me with a semi-high fever (102.5) and she told me it felt like she had the beginning of strep throat; I called her mom and told her about her daughter's symptoms to include the white exudate (bacteria) that was lodged on the right side of her throat where the student's tonsils use to be.  The student's mom blamed the "white patches" on her daughter's seasonal allergies.  The student ended up having strep throat despite the recent tonsillectomy.

I got my tonsils removed around 1.5-2 years ago and I have no doubt in my mind I have strep throat again right now. I knew what the symptoms were, how I feel when I have strep so I went to the doctor, thinking this couldn't be happening because I have no tonsils. The doctor was new, very young, and he insisted on taking a swab, which I understand, except it was 2 days before the weekend. Clinic isn't open on the weekend so I'm currently on day 4 of being sick without antibiotics and it is not getting any better.

"If your Doctor has to send your culture out and your throat is worse then next day, call them and push them to get the results back ASAP!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most doctors don't have the ability to speed up the laboratory processes and/or the mail, and even if they did, demanding them to "get the results back ASAP" will not encourage them to do so.

I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was 12 due to continuous strep and tonsilitis. I went to the Dr yesterday for a sore throat and yep you guessed it I have strep throat! I haven't had it before this since the surgery! This is easily the worst case of strep I've ever had.:'(
