I got my tonsils removed 8 years ago and I never got Strep Throat again. Any other 'sore' throat I have had since has been a non issue compared to the burning stinging awful agony I used to endure.

The same thing happened to my son after his surgery. His tonsils were so colonized with strep that the removal of them caused it to spread during surgery. He hasn't had it since then.

Thank you for posting this. I now will get my dog tested and get rid of my cat. Both my kids had their tonsils removed this past summer and my son still gets strep. None in The house is a carrier.

I am 46 and had my tonsils removed in May 2016 after getting strep for the first time in 2015 and 8 more times in the following 12 months. The Doctor assured me the surgery would stop the recurring strep. The surgery and subsequent pain was awful. I just tested positive for strep again and am beside myself.

It is quite possible that the tonsils were not completely removed. Any little piece of tonsil tissue that has been mistakenly left by the surgeon CAN and actually WILL grow back. YES believe it or not, tonsils can grow back if there's the slightest piece of tonsils left behind.

I am having the same problem with my 4 year old daughter. She had her tonsils out in January 2016 and has had strep throat probably 10 or more times since then. Her doctor refers her to other doctors and none of them can figure out the reason why. She's not a carrier either. I just want a answer to why she keeps getting it.
