The same thing happens to me all of the time. I can't use any other chapstick besides carmex or my lips get tiny bump on them, start flaking, and drying out really fast. When I go like a few days without chapstick my lips get really dry and chapped lips so of course I end up licking them, but when I put the carmex on them the same thing happens again, but I just keep applying the carmex and it eventually goes away and the benadryl pills also worked for me. So, if carmex is the only chapstick that you can use keep using it and just don't let your lips get dry, or the same thing will happen if you don't use it. I also get eczema, so I'm not sure if that's also a cause, but if it gets worse talk to your doctor.

I have the same problem; no kisses if you have on lip balm with SPF. I found out that I am allergic to the SPF in lip balms. I use Chapstick but I make sure it doesn't have ANY SPF-15. Also, I found that if I put SPF on my body, I have to be sure to wash my hands to avoid getting it on my lips. Made that mistake with SPF-30 and the result was horrible. My lips became swollen, stretched tight, small bumps appeared around the edge, then they became crusty around the edge. The whole time they burned. I wish I knew what the compound was in SPF that causes this reaction.

Burt's Bees was what I was using when I discovered I had this problem! It was incredible, i was wearing chapsticks and noticed the same reaction as everybody described and kept using more and more chapstick thinking that my lips were just super dry and not realizing that I had an allergy. Then when I stopped using everything and the sores and dry skin went away, my lips were dry one night and I put on some Burt's Bees before bed and BAM, I knew it had to be chapstick

I have the same issue!! I figured it out about 5 years ago. I can't use anything with SPF on my lips. The swelling, burning, ooze and crust is very frustrating.

I also got an allergic reaction from the peppermint ChapStick. The reaction started the day after I got it. Now I have a red line covered with bumps on my upper lips that also has fluid coming out. It is feeling better because I went back to my old lip balm (nivea a kiss of mint and minerals) I also got a reaction from EOS

This has been happening to me for quite some time every time I use the blistex or Burt's bees until I realized that it's the menthol or whatever cooling agent is used to make it that "minty, refreshing or soothing feeling" to make you think it's working.I get a crusty, itchy, burning , oozing on my lip line, puffy, dry lips. I was sick and used Vick's vaporub on my nose and top of lips, I noticed it also did the same to me. I will stick to plain old vaseline. :(

I have experienced the same thing. I've used lip balm all my life until 6 years ago after buying a new tube my lips became swollen. I didn't think it was the lip balm either so I used it again with same reaction. Fast forward to present, I bought blixtex gel and used thinking since this was so long ago I would be fine. Wrong. My lips swelled up along with itching and burning. They're still swollen after 4 days. I'll try hydrocortisone. This seems to be a common thing going on. I wonder what changed with lip balms because like I said I didn't have any problems until 6 years ago.

Ive noticed that i get the same reaction to lip products with spf. Like a light rash around my lip line. little bumps that are pink/redish and itchy.
I'm not sure but I think my lips might also get reactions to products with menthol. I bought this Buxom lip plumping lip gloss a few years ago and it was like $20 a tube which was pretty crazy to me, but the color was so gorgeous, and its known for having a really great tingly/cooling effect. Unfortunately everytime i wear it, a few days afterwards I get a cold sore! I thought it was just a coincidence at first, i get cold sores 2-3 times a year and they last about a week and a half. So i had a colds sore about 2 weeks ago. Once it healed i found the buxom lip gloss and applied it. wore it for 2 days. And guess what. Now I have 3 COLD SORES. Ugh wish me luck.
But back to the original post, I have gotten the reaction to lip products with spf, but ive also gotten it to burts bees lip balm. The original kind that smells like peppermint. I'd been wearing it for months but after a while i started to get a little rash. My friend even borrowed some and said she got a few "little pimples" around her lips (same friend who convinced me to buy the buxom lip gloss actually). I ended up tossing the tube. Now I just use a chapstick that's cake batter flavored and some other home-made lip balm that seems to have the main ingredient as coconut oil (these are the things ive been using for about a year or more that havent given me any type of reaction (yet haha)). Good luck!

Yes! I did and it was horrible! Went to the doctor and they said that can't be possible being allergic to aquaphor. Well they diagnosed herpes! I was crying upset and sad. And beived it too!

My reaction was like 5 min after putting it on and I thought they were dry that's why it started tingling then I put more and more on. My lips turned red and blistered by the next day. The day after the one blister and bumps the blister didn't pop just went away and didn't scan either. It's been a month and after applying medication into my lips the healing process has been sooo slow!

Im allergic to spf also. Only lip balms i us are carmex and blistex medicated lip ointment (white tube). If I kiss someone that has on an spf balm the best thing to stop your reaction asap and sometimes in its tracks is calamine lotion. Yes you will look silly for a couple hours but inside your own home who cares :)
