Does Folfox -4 and oxalyplatin affects blood sugar. My blood sugar with one pill of Janumet was at 100,120 130, but on the day of the chemo at the evening it went up as 400. I did not beleive it and measured three times; different reading as360,520.400. I am very upset. My oncologist admits that that she does not have sufficient knowledge regarding diabetes problems. I am waiting forthe appointment with the endocrinologist . Is it dangerous when the blood glucose is going all of sudden that much up?
You are talking about some very powerful chemicals used in chemothearpy. Some of them are not well understood and all of their side effects are not always known. Any one of them could be affecting your blood glucose.
Is it dangerous for your blood glucose to shoot up like that? Yes, it could be if it does not return to normal rather soon. On the other hand, you are obviously taking the chemo for cancer of some kind and the doctor most likely has weighed the consequences and found the chemo more beneficial than the potential hazard of the high glucose numbers.
You will have to wait for a better answer from the endocrinologist. Sorry.
