Actually Guest its not that simple
For me it affects me when I drink caffeine, have bananas, eat too much sugars (at least the brain clouding does)

It affects quality of life for people and shouldnt be dismissed entirely as its not just the alcohol.
I have a feeling its something to do with certain nerves being fried so when nerves get stimulated or affected (alcohol affects the Central Nervous System) then it manifests itself in different forms as previously mentioned - unfortunately nerve damage is not repairable as far as I know (there are some oxygen therapy programs).

Not drinking for 1 year and then getting some symptoms after having some tea (like brain cloud or slight numbness/weakness in left side, or some kind of dull pain under ribs on the left side) is not a simple case of stop drinking alcohol.

My gut feeling is also something to do with the CNS.

There is a chemical the brain produces normally called GHB or something similar - its basiclly a happy hormone. When you drink the alcohol contains copious amounts of this and therefore your brain stops producing it. Could this be occuring at the same time that the blood alcohol is nearing zero and the brain therefore has to take over hormone production? It certainly seems that way. This is one explanation anyway.

I have also found that getting on with an activity helps massivley, anything that raises your pulse like washing the car for example. No symptoms doing this, but symptoms are at worst when sitting idle or when doing nothing like being in a car on a journey or going to bed.

Ive had this for years and it got worse but it is better, or at least I now deal with it so often I can cope with it. That said and despite knowing this each attack is just as scary as the last and I hate it.

These symptoms match mine to a T. The only other thing i've noticed is everytime I eat too much the symptoms occur or increase. If I have light meals I will have no or lighter symptoms. I do not believe I have acid reflux however.

What are you eating?
Is it fatty foods?

I noticed before that if I ate fatty foods I would get symptoms too, so I then tried to eat relatively healthy.
White meats (chicken breast for example) and vegetables, steamed if possible

btw when I was drinking I found that having food the next day would more often than not bring on the horrible symptoms, so where I could I would just eat fruit or something light like salads.

I also do not think that our symptoms are acid reflux...

Have any of those who have posted checked into whether they have been having pancreatic attacks?

***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowed

Though there seems to be the occasional pain in the pancreatic region (like a prolonged muscle cramp) I have not had the extreme pain that pancreatic attacks supposedly have.
They do say that other symptoms may occur with a damaged pancreas though so may be worth looking into as the pancreas can be damaged even faster than the liver.

Sorry for the flood of posts, I cant edit posts by the looks of it, unless i am missing something.
The pain I have is usually in the lower left ribcage towards the front (not the back like some people say pancreatic pain resonates to) but where I imagine the pancreas to be (though the pancreas is located behind the stomach).
Occasionally there is like a mini spasm in that area where an organ (dont know which one is twitching quite obviously).
Has anyone had their kidneys checked too as damaged kidneys prevent proper removal of toxins.

One of the users hit it right on the head here!

The chest pains and throat clearing problem is definitly from the drinking!

the best way to avoid any of this is to drink tons of water!

alchocol will dehydrate U! it drains all your bodily fluids, starting from major organs! (Lungs! brains!)

this explains those terrible hang overs with headaches and chest pains!!!

drink on my brothers! just be smart and drink water also!! PEACE

very comforting to see this is not just unique and many of us are experiencing it.

It seems we are all heavy drinkers and can handle a lot. I often find I am still ordering drinks trying to get jolly while my friends are already well into that stage. Usually drink Vodka, but it gets worse when I mix drinks.

I'm 28, been drinking since about 17. First experienced it when I was 25 after a ridiculous binging session and had symptoms  lasting 2 weeks! Usually i get the symptoms for about 2-3 days now. What scares me the most is the feeling like something near my heart is spasm-ing!

I also find taking carbon or charcoal supplements prior to drinking helps absorb some of the toxicity of the alcohol , and I drink a gatorate / pocari sweat before I sleep and again when I wake up. A strong multivitamin is also good. Smoking also aggravates it but thankfully I usually only have a maximum of 2 cigarettes during a boozy night out.

nice to see there are others out there who are feeling the same things I have been, so many times I cannot sleep because I think im going to have a heart attack. I drink alot as well usually 1 or 2 nights a week, and smoke cigarettes the odd time when drinking. the day after drinking i get dull pains in my chest, doesnt really even hurt but i can feel it, lately ive been finding when i have a big yawn or take a large breathe i can feel the pain again for a bit. my symptoms started on a weekend where i drank thurs fr sat, and drank little water. I am 20 years old have been out of school for three years, i was a very active person in highschool, but have gained quite a bit since graduating, im about 6'2 230 pounds and i honestly dont believe its something wrong with my heart, my heartbeat doesnt get weird when i excercise, which i have been doing a lot of lately. and i have went to the emergency once when i was feeling the pain, the doctors found nothing wrong. my blood pressure is a little high but not bad, and my blood sugars are right where they should be. I have been under some stress the past year with university but i dont think it has anything to do with that as i usually handle stress pretty well.

anyone have any good ideas they have been using to rid the pain?

a lot of drinking and puking will cause this should go away in 2-4 days, smoking wont help either. or stress which will make it worse so try to breath in for 4 sec. slowley and out for 7 sec. this will help you to chill and try to relex it will pass .train yourself to breath  IT DOES WORK.                                                                     CHILL OUT BROTHERS ALL IS WELL ....

I ended up here from our lovely search engine; Google. Anyways, I'm still in my early ages, and I can say that I am experiencing this from that occasional heavy night out. Like the above poster (stee) mentioned, I strongly believe it is caused by heavy drinking and hard puking. However, rather than experiencing the symptoms the same night as drinking, I ended up doing the morning hurl (as I like to call it), and am still having the tightness in the mid chest (top abs) and "knot" like feeling in the back upper right part of my shoulder. I've concluded what occurs is the sudden and extremely violent amounts of strain we put on our muscles from the brief 30 to 60 seconds of throwing up is enough to have the effects still linger on our body (thus the hard/heavy breathing, and tightness around various places on the upper torso.) I ran my regular 4 mile run just the other night and did very well, so it really didn't effect my performance much in terms of working out (for anyone who is concerned). I'll hit the weights today, and see how it turns out, but I truly think the effects are most noticeable when sitting down for long periods of time. Try to be in a comfortable position when sleeping, this will help the body relax those tightened muscles, and make waking up a bit more refreshing than usual.

P.S. I believe 72 hours is a usual time span before the effects begin to go away on a noticeable level.

I also used to have these symptoms. Pain in the Right at the bottom of the rib cage. After I ate I would feel like I was about to expire. This could last a couple of days, the arrythmia would stop after about 8 hours, but the cloudy head would last a couple of days and the abdominal pain would last about a week.  After several trips to Medical specialists to rule Dreaded diseases out, I underwent an interesting test for Lactose intolerance.

Turns out I was extremely lactose intolerant which can cause most, if not all the above symptoms as different people experience different symptoms.

What I did discover is that, a day or two after a drinking session, I would eat Pizza, or Pasta or similar, partly because of being hungover and not wanting to make a balanced meal.  This would then set off the "near death experience".

Although difficult, staying away from Dairy has helped.

It has also improved my GERD too.

This actually could be an allergy of sorts. There are many people who have delayed allergic reactions... and it's extremely hard to test for such issues, but any allergist who heard you complain of the difficulty breathing and congested throat would most definitely agree that it sounds like a delayed allergy to hops, barley, and/or whatever else may be in the alcohols you're consuming.

This is an update to my original post +2 posts up. As I said before, I strongly believe it is simply a natural occurance of a night of heavy drinking. I managed to run 4 miles 48 hours of drinking no problem, and do 45 minutes of extreme intensive upper body work outs. a total of nearly 200+ reps of different forms using dumbells, leveled, inclined, and declined push ups, as well as crunches will 15 pound weight staight to the chest, oblique side to sides of a 90 rep with the same 15 pounder, heel ups with the 15 pounder etc. My body did them flawlessly and I was able to do the yard work with no problems. Oddly enough I only noticed the "annoying feeling" when I would sit down for longer than 30 minutes. As I said above, it went away after 72 hours, but I am in very good physical shape so I can't say the same for someone who isn't. I hope this'll help calm someone's nerves down if they are experiencing the symptoms for the first time!
