Hello,
For the past year chest pain occurred, which is worse in cold months. There is nothing that would ease the pain, I sometimes take these very strong painkillers ketonal, which I really shouldn’t because they are too strong, but I can’t help it. Pain is very strong and it also prevents me from sleeping. Sometimes I sit throughout the night, not closing an eye… horrible. Hardly breathing and taking these painkillers to be able to sleep. I went to the doctor, he did some tests, I have been on ultrasounds, scans…., but everything came back negative. I have been also suffering from rheumatoid arthritis more than 5 years. I was wondering if this could be connected to my chest pain problem.

Hey there,
I have similar problem. You really shouldn’t take ketonal, because one of its side effects are chest pain!
Doctors find out that I have costochondritis. This is an inflammation of a rib or the cartilage connecting a rib, which is a common cause of chest-wall pain. Maybe this is the case with you too, or maybe Pleurisy, which is an inflammation of the pleura, the lining of the lungs, with subsequent pain.
I really do not want to guess, but I am just giving suggestions what might be wrong with you. However, this is up to specialist to find out. Go to a doctor and make more tests. I was struggling with doctors and test more than a year before they came up with solution! Be patient and I am sure you and doctors shall get to the bottom of it.
I too suffered from chest pain for years without knowing the cause. My doctor at the time thought it was acid refulx so he prescribed Vioxx, then later the "purple pill", which didn't help. The pain kept coming back along with weakness and fatigue. So I decided to get a second opinion. Four years and five doctors later (including Heart Specialists, Gastroenterologists, Neurological Specialists, and Rheumatologists), they were finally able to diagnose the cause. Arthritis of the Chest Wall. My new (and current) doctor advised me to stay clear of stress, change my diet, start exercising regulary, and find time to MAKE TIME for me and me alone. He calls it "ME time". Find something you enjoy to do by yourself and do it. Whether it be going to the movies, taking a walk in the park, swimming, dining out, taking a drive, spending the weekend at your favorite cabin or lake camp site, e.t.c. whatever makes you RELAX. In other words, take it easy on yourself. Well, it's been 4yrs since that diagnosis. The most recent test results show that my chest wall has weakened by 30% and at the rate it's going, I have 5 years, give or take a year or so. My doctor said I would suffer a massive heart attack without the protection of my chest wall. So I have kept to my diet, my exercising, and give myself ME time. And though I know it will not stop the inevitable, I can at least try to slow it down. So take your meds, follow your doctors advise and live everyday as if it were your last.
