China has been suffering from rampant counterfeiting of food and medicines in the last couple of years. Twelve children died from drinking fake formulas from different manufacturers.

The factory in Shandong's Weihai city was producing the shoddy Lezichun-branded milk powder between 2002 and 2004, which has been found so low in nutrition that it killed one baby and left others dangerously malnourished.

The persons responsible for producing this baby formula have been imprisoned and charged penalties.
This factory knowingly produced the substandard formula, which caused the death of a baby girl in the eastern province of Anhui and sickened others 200 last year. Since then, around 240,000 packages of Lezichun milk have been confiscated.
