Hi all,

I have experienced similar problems with my bowel movements and I would highly suggest seeing an Ayurvedic doctor. It is interesting that some people mention panic/anxiety attacks along with loose stool. In Western medicine this is unrelated, in Ayurveda this has to do with an excess of Vata--which is one of the three "types" of people.
You can figure out a routine and diet that best suits your type-this is a lot better than abstaining from everything.
Look into it!
Hope it helps

Hey guys I didn't finish reading the thread so Idk if anyone found any solutions but alot of your complaints sound similar to mine. Im a 31year old female and if anyone is interested in my story ill get more into it later but you all might want to do your selves a favor and look into adrenal fatigue. I am combating that along with gluten intolerance atm. Idk which is the chicken and which is the egg as each can cause the other. Good luck

Greezy,

Our stories are very similar. I'm a 27 year old male with no history of GI issues. All of a sudden, issues started to pop up about 2 years ago. I saw 5 different drs (2 internist, 2 gastros & an infections disease specialist) and had a trip to the ER over 10 months. They ran the gauntlet of tests (blood tests, stool studies, ultrasounds, CT scans, colonoscopy, endoscopy, MRI) and they all came back normal. The Infectious disease specialist performed a sigmoidoscopy and found a protozoan parasite.

While my GI issues have been reduced from earlier (down to 1-2 BMs a day from 8-10), it's been nearly a year since the parasite was killed and i still feel miserable. The doctors told me it would take some time for my body to heal and recommended I take probiotics. I've been taking them every since, but I still wake up each morning and have loose stools. I feel miserable for a few hours after the first BM. I normally settle down sometime in the afternoon, but I'm still on a very simple diet.

I eat Grilled chicken sandwiches, rice, pasta & white bread for the most part. Anytime I eat something a little greasy I'm a disaster the next day. I haven't drank any alcohol in nearly 2 years now. All I drink is water. I also limit the amount of water I drink to two bottles a day. Any more than that, and I have extremely loose stools.

I know it has been a while since you posted here, but have you had any luck in finding out your problems and been able to return to normal?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

I've had this problem off and on for years. After several doctors and taking various prescriptions, including anti-biotics, anti-acid, and fiber, also diet changes, etc., I finally got some off-hand advice from a pharmacist that was so amazingly simple, I didn't think it would work, but I was willing to try anything. The key is probiotics. there are many different kinds. Go to your health food store, whole foods, good earth, whatever sells organic food, and they will have a variety to choose from. There is one that has been found to treat c-diff specifically, which is called Saccharomyces boulardii. I take that one every time I am on a strong anti-biotic, and my stomach has never felt better. My stools never more solid and regular, and my anxiety has even been reduced (if your gut is happy, you will be happy). It beats me why doctors are so clueless about the importance of keeping the gut balanced. I hear people going through all this pain and chronic bowel problems and doctors will prescribe anything under the sun but they never mention that some simple probiotics will likely do the trick. Thats all. Good luck.

Hello everyone

Mine started after taking antibiotics (big doses) after loosing a baby. Same symptoms as you all describe and it has resulted in a complete change of life style for me. I have now had it for 15 years! I have had all the tests with no results and 'control' it with Loperamide 'Immodium'. At the moment I take two every second day always in the moring and it makes my stools harder and more predictable to control. I also never eat anything before 11am and only have a cup of lemon tea in the moring with a little sugar. It's not a cure but a possibility to carry on working and live a normal life. I have to drive to work in case I get caught short but my symptoms are mainly first thing in the morning 'till about midday and then I am normal. I am allergic to garlic in anything and also very rich foods can set me off. I would urge everyone to test for as many food allergies as they can and consider whether they had this before taking antibiotics. It is essentially IBS it just has many different guises.

Good luck.

recommend you take gum arabica about 1 gram - twice a day - morning and afternoon to easily get out of this problem.

30 year old male here - I've read this thread a couple times in the past months and it seems to be closest to the problems I'm experiencing.  Thought I would share my experiences as well.

Like most of the other posts in this thread I am also experiencing a couple bowel movements in the morning only.  As soon as I wake up in the morning I get some loud stomach noises, and lots of gas (no pain though).  Eventually this leads to a bowel movement once I head to the bathroom which seems to be soft or mostly formed if I ate decent the day before.  (If I eat anything greasy, rich, heavy, my BM is more loose/watery in the morning).  Sometimes I will need to have a second BM, but not always.  The second BM is usually even more soft/loose than the first one.  I am not feeling nauseous after the BMs, but I feel somewhat fatigued until I eat breakfast.  I usually have both BMs before breakfast.  I'm generally fine for the rest of the day after my morning BMs.  On rare occasion I'll have another BM at night but it's always solid/formed.

All of this started for me at the end of March 2012 (it's now June 2012).  I had flu symptoms for about 5-6 days - fever, chills, muscle weakness, cough, respiratory pain, etc.  Towards the end of my symptoms I was so fed up I went to the doctor just to see if he could do anything for me.  He gave me nothing for the flu itself but told me I had a sinus infection, and put me on a 10-day course of antibiotics (Cefadroxil), which I later found to be a very strong broad-spectrum antibiotic.  The flu symptoms subsided and I began taking the antibiotic, and started feeling pretty good.  On the last day of the antibiotic I started getting diarrhea (watery).  I didn't think too much of it since it was listed as a side effect of the antibiotic.  3 weeks later I was still having very bad problems with diarrhea and experienced weight loss of about 8-9 lbs.  I was also experiencing dry mouth and frequent urination (probably from becoming dehydrated and drinking a lot of water).  I was experiencing quite a bit of mucus in some of my BMs, and sometimes passing only mucus.  I was also EXTREMELY fatigued, to the point I could barely function throughout the day, my muscles felt very weak, and I just wanted to sleep all day.

I went back to the Dr about these new symptoms and he did two blood tests to check for diabetes, thyroid, kidney, anemia, liver, etc, and the only thing that came back abnormal was low Vitamin D which I am now taking supplements for.  He also did a stool sample to check for C. Diff, parasites, and some other stuff, everything came back negative.  He didn't seem to think the antibiotics could be causing my troubles although they started while taking them...(??)  He recommended I try the BRAT diet to give my gut a break which I admit I haven't fully gone through with yet but I have found some relief on my own with the following changes:

I began taking probiotics - Align and Florastor.  I'm thinking of adding another strain as well.
I avoid most dairy (since it can really make me loose) - yogurts and cheese are okay, ice cream and milk are not!
I avoid eating lots of hard to digest foods (raw vegetables, beans, etc)
I'm eating things like chicken, salmon, cooked broccoli, potatoes, rice, etc for dinner.  Turkey sandwiches, peanut butter crackers, yogurts for lunch, and poached eggs and oatmeal or toast for breakfast. (Basically a bland diet)
I'm trying to do yoga and light exercise to relieve stress/anxiety and to take my mind off the struggles i've been going through the past 2.5 months.

Since making these adjustments I have regained a lot of my energy, and my weight has mostly stabilized.  I do still have soft/loose stools in the morning but usually no longer have the mucus unless I eat something greasy/rich the day before.

I am returning to the Doctor next week for a follow up on the Vitamin D levels but also might ask to do another stool sample just to make sure I don't have anything in me.  If the symptoms don't continue to get better I will see a specialist for further testing.

As stated earlier my issues began during antibiotic use which seems to be fairly common.  I also took Accutane in my teenage years which I've read can lead to IBS symptoms later in life.  I was curious if anyone else here experiencing these symptoms has taken Accutane?

Hi there,

From reading all these posts, it seems to me that you are all suffering from some sort of intestinal irritation/inflammation.  Now, what causes these symptoms? I don't know, but it can be a great deal of things.  If you have all gone to see your doctors and specialists, and everything has come back negative; then make sure you look into your diets.  Perhaps you are lactose intolerant, and if you eat anything made out of diary; this could give you bloating, nausea, loose stools, cramping, etc.  Perhaps you are celiacs, and you are allergic to anything that has gluten (anything made out of wheat, rye or barley).  If you are a celiac, than consuming gluten can give you the same symptoms.  By the way, you can become lactose intolerant or a celiac at any point in time.  Perhaps you are eating too many processed foods (junk food, hot dogs, burgers, ham and turkey deli stuff, etc) and not any fibers and/or enough water.  Perhaps you are just coming back from an episode of food poisoning, intestinal virus or bacteria, or a parasite; and you still have some left-over craps and loose stools.  All These eating habits and conditions will irritate your intestines, degenerate your villi and deplete your intestinal flora.

Taking probiotics will regenerate your flora, but you have to make wise, healthy changes in your diets as well.  You also have to exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep every night for your bodies to heal.  Also, remember that healing does not occur in 2, 4 or 6 weeks. Healing may take 6 months to a year after doing things wisely.  If the doctors found nothing wrong with you, then move on and start doing things right for yourselves.  Allow your bodies to heal; give it time.  If you keep on changing doctors and taking whatever they give you, your stomach and intestines will be the ones to suffer.  Antibiotics, antacids and proton pump inhibitors just prevent you from healing well.  You are just masking the symptoms.  It is just like taking Tylenol for pain.

If you have parasites, take a natural parasite killer like PARAGONE or any other found in a natural food market or homeopathic pharmacy. Take phyllium husk as a fiber supplement, drink plenty of water and eat healthy.  Try not to take things made out of white sugar or white flour as parasites feed off these foods.

If you have re-flux, see why.  Perhaps you don't produced enough acid to breakdown food in your stomach.  Then you can take some natural digestive enzymes and/or betaine hydrochloride just prior to eating your meals to help your digestive system breakdown the food you ingest.  Or maybe you are just eating hard foods that irritate your esophagus prior to your big meals like chips, bread, crackers, etc. Eating these appetizers will cause microbrasions in your esophagus, and when your stomach juices begin kicking at the time of the meal; it will cause that heartburn/reflux feeling.

If you have stomach cramps, then take some peppermint for the cramps and probiotics on a regular basis to build up your flora.

If you are depressed, anxious or suffer from panic attacks; Give yourself a break or two on a daily basis and meditate. Try either self or hetero-hypnosis.  It works!

However the main thing here is to make wise, healthy choices when eating.  "Eat to live", and "don't live to eat".  Eat lots of raw veggies, fruits, nuts, grains and legumes.  The darker the color of the veggie or fruit, the better is for you.  Drink lots of water.  Limit your red meats, fried foods, white sugar and white flour.  Stay away from processed food and junk food.  Stay away from carbonated drinks.

And, last but not least: Exercise, get plenty of sleep and give your body time to heal.

Has anyone looked into hypochlorhydria...diarrhea is a symptom of it. I have the same problems and that is what my research has led me to. Organic apple cider vinegar has helped a lot and I'm going to try the diet rec. for Hypochlorhydria.

I've had this problem as well, normally in the morning but sometimes loose the entire day.  Haven't been to a doctor, but I was just in Europe (Sweden) for two weeks and didn't have the problems whatsoever.  Then I returned and it almost immediately returned.  I at a lot of buttermilk, hard bread, and natural self picked berries when I was there, so I'm attributing mine to diet.

Hi , I  was directed onto this site because I was inquiring on symptoms very similar to those I have read, and all I can say is, I do not trust Drs. I think there is so many things inside all of us , of which people have been told by these Drs. and because they don't know, you can be sure it is categorized as an IDIOPATHIC problem!! Great, that does NOTHING for my problem doc!!

SO, what I am going to do, and I would strongly recommend, Really, can it hurt at this phase? is to do a chelation therapy of which I fully plan on investigating! My sister died of Breast cancer so I found myself exploring on the web. I came across "Gerson Therapy"
Whether one has Cancer or not! I believe this will work and I plan on trying it, and if it works, I will be back to let you know! Good luck everyone and I wish you relief from this HIGHLY ANNOYING problem. This program is on Instan viewing on Netflix, U-tube and there is a book, and of course now, many like it. This man was a genious of his time. His daughter whom at the time of the video, speaks of NEVER having health insurance and therefore had saved 90 thousand dollars! LOL today we get fined at tax time if we don't carry health insurance!! but this information in the video is priceless! a woman who survived pancreatic cancer! is still alive today decades later! to a young girl, who I do not know if she died yet , but I will check this out as well! she was surviving many vital organs that were raveged by chemo and radiation and just cancer! she was doing FANTASTIC in the video, she was only suppose to live months! it was a couple yrs. I think and she was getting and looking very healthy.
organic food, no pesticides,       DISTILLED WATER!!! a lot a bout wATER AND jUICING! EAT WELL AND BE HAPPY!

Try this natural remedy -

slice ginger into thin long spikes and put it into Apple cider vinegar in a glass container/wide mouth bottle so that a spoon can go in. The ginger should be completely covered with the vinegar. Leave for a day. Now take a table spoon of this vinegar in a glass of water first thing in the morning and an hour before dinner. Also take just about a teaspoon of the sliced soaked ginger with your breakfast and dinner.

It worked like magic for me. I had got fedup of the antibiotics and probiotics etc and stopped everything before trying the above!

Also, for a couple of days cut out on oats or wheat or what ever fiber you had introduced into your diet when this issue initially started.
