Clariton D and erection problems

Would just like to say...I experienced urinary problems.....thought there was something really wrong.  So went to the doctor for another allergy medication some how thank God the Doctor mentioned that Claritin D can cause problems, and I didn't mention anything untill she told me.  God bailed me out, as I was too embarrassed to talk about it.  It was difficult to empty...always felt like something was left over.  Had tingling too. Stopped taking it now I'm normal again. Had I not gone to the doctor would have never figured it out and who knows could have went in another direction.  Thank God he used my doctor to convey the right message.

Never happened to me in 40+ years, with (ahem) different women, drunk, sober, early, late, etc. But it did after taking Claratin. Thanks to all above for the reassurance.

My husband is 29, never has any problems with ED until he takes Zyrtec, Psedophederine or Naproxen, then he has ED problems. As soon as he stops them and they get out of his system he is fine. I looked it up and surprisingly there are quite a few drugs that cause ED to happen. NSAID's, which include IB profen {Advil} & Naproxen {Alieve}, just to name a couple, and Antihistimines ,which are in alot of allergy meds cause ED. It is not just perscription meds, but also over the counter ones too. Make sure if you are having this problem you check to see if they are on the ED lists {or check before you start them.}  If you normally are fine and you start a drug and suddenly you get ED, then you stop it and your fine again, it's probably the pills. Remember every drug affects each person differently because we are all different, so don't let anyone tell you they can't cause a problem, you may be the one affected by it.

This drug makes it impossible to get it up for me, as soon as I switched back to Benedryl I had no problem. I seem to remember there being a warning that it could reduce sexual function in the box, that was 1990 so have they changed ? YES it definitely does cause erectile problems but the good news is it's not permanent.

I have been taking benedryl for 25 years, I'm 40 years old with no problem getting it up. Claritin gave me erectile dysfunction when I tried it for a week years ago.

Actually, it's a fact that the original poster's impotence is from Claritin. I never had erectile problems in my life and when I rarely take Claritin I do. Then a couple days after I stop Claritin I'm 100% back to full power. My friends and I all know this because we all get this side effect from it.

It is Claritin-D. Cause and effect. Pseudoephedrine is a first line treatment in a hospital for priapism (an erection that won't go down). Claritin-D contains pseudoephidrine as well as any antihistamine that says "D" or "sinus." Histamine is responsible for sex drive/libido. High histamine will have you aroused all the time, lower your histamine with any antihistamine and you will lower your libido via lowering your histamine levels. The answer? Good old Benadryl. If you don't want to deal with the drowsiness and weigh gain from Benadryl, go to your health food store and buy some Quercetin. It's a mast cell stabilizer that is actually good for you. There are no side effects and it's used by athletes to increase endurance. 

Have you tried switching medications? I need allergy meds once in a while and found out that the generic version of Zyrtec at walmart works great with no side effects at all.

darn..i wish I woulda knew this. I had the same problem while taking Aleve -D couldn't figure/never had this problem...I had been taking it daily for a few weeks..then with my new gf I was having the problem of keeping it going (up). I never in my mind would have thought it was the pseudo....very embarassing to say the least. Well, I haven't taken any for at least 24hrs but after a few weeks I wonder how long it will take to purge from my system?

I'm 20 years old and feel like I'm far to young to be having this problem! I have really bad allergies though and am stoked to see that the sudafed im taking is most likely the cause. I'm taking 24 hour sudafed, so I'm wondering how long will it take until it is completely out of my system? Very embarrassing and frusterating. OVER IT. Anyone know how long? 24 hours or more?

STOP taking Clariton D for allergies. One of the worst things men can take. It will destroy a sex life. Then, you will put on another pill to fix that problem. Take local honey for allergies. Suffered years with allergies until someone told me about local honey. Thought they were crazy. Has worked for me. Your choice. A pill? Or, a spoonful of honey?

I will never take claritin d/psuedoephedrine again.  i'll sneeze and have itchy eyes and runny nose, but i ain't putting a gun to joey's head again

I have experienced that regular Claritin (not Claritin D) causes premature ejaculation. When I'm not on it, I can last 15-20 minutes. When I'm on it, I'm done in less than a minute. This problem had been bugging me for almost a year, and I just figured it out. I wonder if regular Claritin has a different drug, because it seems to have the opposite effect of Claritin D.
